I dunno, looks like a dam, vaguely. Spillway pointed northeast.

| | | Obviously, this photo was taken in the winter. You can tell this by seeing mostly evergreens. The most popular evergreen in NC is the Long Leaf Pine tree, which is also our state tree. These trees produce a sap that is very useful for healing small cuts and scrapes, usually leaving no scar at all.

| | | I'm not an idiot and this post started out me sounding that way. It looks to me as an old mansion that the roof is rotted through on. There are multiple structures on the site, along with a very old drive up to it, you can see it was older than the local road were it crosses from the river. May be these next photos can show you why it caught my eye.

| | | I just found a feature on Google Earth that gives me disappointment with this site. These images above are dated March 3rd 2007, I was messing with the Historical Imagery button and found this out; Google dose not show you the most up to date by default but the highest quality as default. This image below is dated May 3rd 2009: (added also is the same image is scale as the 2007 show)
2009
2007
It seems as if they have demoed the old mansion, and built up some type of commerce on the site.

| | | I beg to differ. I think all the same structures are still there, but it has obviously seen a lot of renovation and the addition of parking and walkways. Though you're right, that big one in the middle may have been replaced with something smaller. I doubt it was a mansion- the largest buildings on these old agricultural properties are usually barns. I'm going to guess that this was an old farm, probably historic, and it has been fixed up as either a historic site, educational center, or maybe even a bed and breakfast or something like that.

| | | Get the coords from google maps and then copy pasta into terraserver. Most of the aerial photos are a bit more recent than google, and the oblique view offers higher res. And yes, terraserver has it's own issues... like damn small viewer and being slow as balls.
