Yep, they're opening up the doors to Woodman's this Saturday and letting people check it out. $25 gets you in, and some of the orphans who grew up there will be guest speakers.

Pretty neat-o, but a few things bother me:

A. The building is privately owned. The owners knew what they were getting when they bought the property and to ask for donations to fix the place up would be the same as me asking people to come paint my house or fix my roof for me, and:

B. This seems like it could end in a huge lawsuit. There's supposed to be safety measures put in place before people go inside, but anyone who's been there recently knows how shaky the floor is.

Still a cool idea, though.

Liquorhead, I was going to call you tonight and see if you wanted to donate $50 and come over this Saturday and clean my gutters. I was going to provide a sandwich for you. I guess this means NO? Damn.

Well they already said in the article that people won't be able to go through the whole building anyway, just small sections, so I'm willing to bet that means the upstairs areas will be off limits because too many people up there would definitely collapse it. But if this really will help them renovate/preserve the place I'll totally contribute and go...you can get discounted tickets over the phone or internet even for $20, or so the article says, or at the local museum and a couple other shops. This also may be the last chance to get to see the place in the condition that it's in, let alone get in in general if they start to renovate with that money, I mean look at the baker now that it's being renovated, it's damn near impossible to get in. I've already been in the woodmen on several occasions and seen everything there anyway so I don't mind not getting to walk through the WHOLE place again as long as I get to see some of it again but I'm also definitely interested in hearing some actual stories tied to the building. I'm going to try really hard to go but I work until 4 am the night before so if I can wake up in time I will, if not though I hope someone video records the guest speakers and uploads them online for others to see since this is a rare opportunity, but if I make it there that's what I'm going to try and do as well.

For $25 apiece, I'd be happy to conduct a more thorough, immersive tour of the facility for anyone who'd like to go...NEXT Saturday night!

I just saw the price. Wow, really? And I'm sure that it would just be a basic tour, no basement and no upstairs. Yeah... I like Imbroglios idea better.

While I want to see/photograph this place - I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $20 to do so.

I'll go shoot this myself instead. Unless maybe they'll let me shoot on a full moon at 2am?

Funny thing...I actually had it lined up to hang an exhibit of my work from the WCH and sell prints in one of the rooms in the back building, but when the woman who was committee chair for the event ran it by the property owner to make sure he was OK with it, his quote was...

"If he didn't ask permission the first time to go out there, he can't have permission this time either. He could have asked me...I'm not that hard to track down".

Actually though, as I understand it, it rained pretty good most of the morning out there that day...probably wasn't much of an event as a result, I should think.

Wow, so is he saying he'll let us explore the place if we only ask permission first? Hmm.
