Der Spiegel has a very interesting story about a place called Palast der Republik in the former East Berlin. It was abandoned shortly after the fall of the wall and this lucky photographer was able to document it in almost pristine condition before it's slow demolition.

It seems almost a pity that it was demo'd as it looks like a fantastic cultural centre.

Wow. I wonder if someone was taking care of it in the 4 years that it had been abandoned. There's no dust--no peeling paint or wallpaper--nothing but the stripped science cabinets and vacant offices to show that this building wasn't in use.

I wonder how pristine it was before 2002...
