Model shoot in downtown Raleigh

We were originally planning on shooting in a couple of abandoned warehouses, but they were recently locked up tight! So we made due with the outside of some of the buildings and the train tracks surrounding them...

This is Cortney Rice... Old friend from high school and a pretty experienced model. Easy as hell to work with.

All shots were taken with my Nikon D5000 with the kit 18/55 lens using natural lighting.

And as always, hi-res versions can be found on my flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/kwikstix

Beautiful shots; gorgeous model. Raleigh is a bit out of my way, but the images from the D5000 are fantastic.

I'm in the market for either the D5000, the Canon Rebel t2i, and the Pentax K-x.
I've heard (and seen) good things from each, so we'll see.

Thanks guys!

Adam- I'm sad too Those were my favorite places in downtown raleigh :/

Hertz- Thanks! I've been super pleased with the D5000 so far. It's great in low light. (These were taken between 6:30-8:00pm yesterday and they were all shot by hand (no tripod). The only problem with the d5000 is that it lacks an internal focusing motor.

The lighting looked great I have to admit... and; let's face it... for the hobby it pays to get a nice camera that's worth its salt in low-light.

Well that, and the less noise per high iso is a big help too.

I hear good things in the low-light department about the Pentax K-x and I might be heading that way. The D-5000 is one of my 3 possibles; the other being a Rebel T2i... but money and AA-capability is steering me towards the K-x.

For what it's worth, I can shoot for days on a single battery with my T1i. I got 2 extra batteries from eBay and even on week-long vacations never run out of power. Not sure if AA would be a huge benefit.

Well I will probably use recharge Ni-MH's or recharge L-Ions for the Pentax; I just didn't want to get pidgeon-holed into using the canon rechargeable battery or, the Nikon rechargeable battery. If it's AA's then I can shop around for whatever brands I want.

Petty; I know... it's just a pet peeve of mine. Still though the D-5000 and the T2i are in the running. It's just the saving scrounging would take less time if I were to get the Pentax.

Because then the camera is only the first hurdle... then comes the lens hurdle(s).
Wheee.

You don't have anything invested in glass for any of those brands, do you?

If not, and if your aim is for an ultra lightweight, low profile system, it's hard to beat Pentax. Sure, they're not MFT gems, but with the line of pancake lenses Pentax has out for their DSLRs... man, I've wanted to jump ship myself. Pentax has every prime I wish Nikon would put out and then some.

We didn't need a story. We didn't need a real world. We just had to keep walking. And we became the stories, we became the places. We were the lights, the deserts, the faraway worlds. We were you before you even existed.

Nope; nothing invested.
My grandmother has an old canon 200mm lens... but I wasn't even going to think about crossing that bridge until I came to it. I was originally thinking of Pentax for the price, but an Urb-Ex'r I know, and another amateur photographer I know have produced some really nice things with their Pentax's.

...and sorry to the mods for getting off-topic in the forum. You can see what purchase has been on my mind for the past few months.

Yeah, apologies here too for commandeering the post kinda-sorta. Call it envy for the freedom to start again without regret for past investments. =\
