|  | | | Just interested to see if anybody has been out to Tok, AK. and saw the abandoned roadhouse. It is just outside of Tok Alaska at Tetlin Junction. The best way to explain would be Google maps.

If anyone else has been here or has any more info on it I would like to know. I could never really find out much about the place while I was there other than it was around in the fifties and it used to get quite a good amount of people (truckers/tourists) in the summertime, back in it's hay day. I don't know why it was abandoned or if has been demolished in the past year or so. There is one word of caution if you go out here: If you go out near the old cars (50's or 60's?) be careful were you step. There is some sort of tar out there that I completely ruined my shoes with. It would never wash off and it smelled horrible.

| | | | Found two more in my photos earlier today thought I'd share. The cabins in the first picture don't really have anything cool about them other than the "funhouse" cabin. The tunnels on the other hand go under quite a ways and have a ladder to the surface which I wouldn't recommend climbing.

I think there may have been more roadhouses in the old days when cars were slower, roads were crappier, and people stopped more often for gas/food/sleep. Another one is the Richardson Roadhouse near Fairbanks:

What's the deal with the tunnel? Looks like maybe it was to keep the sewer pipes from freezing? It's kind of cool if the place had it's own little utility tunnel system!

| | | | I really wished I had stopped at the Richardson Roadhouse :( I was always on business when driving to Fairbanks from Tok so I was in a rush to get back so I didn't have to play lets spot the moose right before I hit it at night. If you are interested in more Alaska locations I know of one more easy one located in Tok as well. The old school they have there is abandoned When I was out there (2 years ago) it was fairly easy to get in(Front door is unlocked most of the time). If that doesn't work out I know there is a roof hatch that leads to a boiler room. The school used to use half of it for a shop class but not very often and not at night. The utility tunnels are definitely cramped and I think they used to give power to the gas station. Not 100% sure though. Either way it's a great way to stop and see if you ever go out that far. Glad you liked it.

I'm not in Alaska anymore, I grew up near Juneau and went to college in Fairbanks, but I've been living in the midwest lately. I'm hoping to get back there at some point and do some more mines and stuff.

| | | | It's been so long since I've been out there that I can't point out exactly which building it is. I do know that it is the basement in one of the buildings. The place isn't overly big so it should be findable(10 to 15 minutes of looking for a basement). It's a very tight fit in the tunnel. I crawled a until I got too itchy from some insulation and backed out.
