I and my exploring Partner abandonedfreak will be making a trek out to the following 2 cities in the state of Ohio. Elyria OH and Cleveland, OH. I was wondering if anyone could point him and I in the right direction of some abandonment's in the area? I know of a couple but would like some info on them?

Saint Lukes Hospital?

Lima TB Hospital?

Coast Guard Station?

Thanks..

If anyone would like to join us we are coming down on Aug 8, 2010 and exploring that day and on Aug 9th, 2010 staying in a hotel in Elyria, Ohio.

The coast guard station is being renovated.
The ground floor to St.Lukes is well sealed,I have seen recent photos from there though. It is mostly gutted inside, wouldn't be my first choice.
This site on Flickr will provide much information:

Even if the CG station wasn't being renovated, it's not worth the trip. St. Luke's is sealed, and has an active construction site next door, and is watched by the gendarmes.

But if you can't find abandonments in Cleveland, you're not looking. No freebies.

My only warning for Elyria is stay far away from Faymore's Castle. The guy who owns that property has no sense of humor about trespassers.

And like Splumer said, there are tons of abandonments in Cleveland if you look. I wouldn't bother with the Coast Guard station, not much to see and semi-active. Lima TB is nowhere near Cleveland or Elyria and from what others have posted, no longer worth the trip either.

Sniff around in the database and look around on your own once your out there. There's some good places if you keep your eyes open.

budda: That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Fuck me sideways this is insane.

My advice is avoid populated cities in Ohio. Some of the best sites I have found have been in country areas. Reason #1 they are visited less reason #2 less chance of getting caught.

But then you miss out on the best sites. Cleveland is loaded with abandonments. I have a list of about 25 places I have yet to explore, and not one of them is a house.

I just always have this fear that I am going to get caught going into abandoned places in Cleveland...I am also afraid of bums. When I go to places I am usually alone, my fiancé works all day and my friends aren't into this stuff anymore. So I like to go where I feel somewhat safe.

Last time I explored Cleveland, we ran into a bum or two in an abandonment and he said he would leave us alone if we just gave him a cigarette and we did and he took off. On that note, Coming back into Cleveland again Dec 17-19th, 2010 don't know if I'm going to have time to explore yet, but If people want to get together let me know.

I know what you mean. I often explore alone, too, but I have yet to encounter any bums. I've seen plenty of evidence of bums, but no actual bums. But regardless, exploring alone really isn't a good idea. Besides bums, there's always the possibility of getting hurt and needing help. Example: this summer my son & I explored a place on the west side. I cut my right hand jumping the fence. Not seriously, but it kept bleeding, and because it was on my right hand, I couldn't easily apply a band-aid. My son had to do it. So, it wasn't like I was pinned under 30 tons of rubble or anything, it was one of those PitA things.

But still, there is SO much to see in Cleveland. Even some stuff in not-so-bad neighborhoods.

i grew up in the lorain county/ medina area.
there are tons of abandoned buildings i think theres a few abondoned campgrounds also
most the things i ever saw were in the middle of nowhere

my town had a rundown waterpark called wildwood waterpark, someone bought up the land now and has the whole quarry to themselves

faymore castle was pretty awesome, we used to ride bmx bikes in that pool

hoping to come back next summer and explore a few other things if there still there
