it makes you a little weird but being weird is awesome.

i looooove roller coasters. as for abandoned ones... it'd be cool to SEE them, but i'd probably kill myself trying to "ride" them.

Well, I'm afraid of heights and get motion sickness (though it would take more than a coaster ride), but rides just don't do anything for me. I prefer non-vicarious thrills... like UE!

Neat pictures. I live fairly close to Americana. I've been inside 4 times so far.

You all be careful if you end up going back. The park is highly secured. Ive had some close calls there some years back. Sadly, a lot of the park has been torn down. I remember going there as a kid with my grandparents.

Everyone says there's plenty of security, but I've never seen another soul in the 4 times I've been in. I guess I'm just lucky!

The only security I'm aware of is an old guy on a golf cart that drives around.

Oh, and the killer bees.

* The old ferry docked on land, seems to have washed up from shore*

This park was originally known as "Lesourdesville Lake"; there was a large lake in the center of the park. Part of the lake had a beach and was used for swimming and the remainder for ski demonstrations and for the operation of this ferry. The ferry would take you from one part of the park across the lake to the narrow gauge railroad station on the other side.

I was a member of the group that ran the haunted house in the "western town" section of the park back in the early nineties. At that time the lake had some sort of leak in it and was draining away rapidly into the Great Miami river that goes right beside the park. Park management was dumping bales of straw in the lake to try and slow the leak and at some point had brought in a trailer-mounted gasoline powered pump and was pumping water 24 hours/day from the river into the lake to keep it high enough to operate the ferry.

Based on aerial pictures on the Internet it seems that the new owner gave up on the lake and filled it in. They probably pulled the ferry out and beached it before filling the lake.

They took his cart away because he's getting too fat.
