Clifton, New Jersey. Gates of Hell storm drain

Hi I'm Michael and I'm new to this site. =)

I have found out about a place known as Gates of Hell by reading Weird NJ magazine. A few months back (around October 2009) I went to this area with a few friends. It took us a while to find it and we almost got hurt (you have to run across railroad tracks and we didn't feel like waiting for a train to pass first to make sure it's safe). Anyways, it's a pretty cool drain system with some neat graffiti and stuff inside. The only problem is that I was not able to take any pictures. The point of this thread is to see if any other like minded people would want to come with me and check the area out once more. I didn't get to see the entire drain system so it would be pretty cool to check out again and take some pictures.

Here are some online pics of the area:

It's pretty long too in there. A nice system of pipes and tunnels. It took us 1 hr of walking to get to another opening.

The place used to be used as tunnels during

PM me if you are interesting in going. I will give details and stuff there.

Whoa! I was there like 7 years ago or so. I havent been back since. That was my first drain i ever did actually. Yea it took me a bit to find it too because i knew nothing about it, just whatever i could find online. Neat first drain tho even tho it stops at certain points and you have to turn around.

I'm not interested in draining Played, and I definitely wouldn't go into one with that much water. I'll take your word for it.

I went a long time ago and some parts were up to my knees, other parts looked higher so i didnt bother to go any farther. I hit one tunnel and it ended with some kind of cement wall with a small pipe coming out of it so i had to turn around. One tunnel is dangerous because of the slope it has, one slip and youre in for a ride. Heres a pic of me in here back in like 03 or something. I think i had just come from somewhere and stopped there on my way back (i dont know why i have camo on to be honest)

Nice. That's weird though. The way we went we didn't have to turn around at all. We went pretty straight with only a few turns at the start. We ended up getting out through this park and having to leave through there.

Everything is going to be alright.

I would totally go. I would like to start a group or join a group that likes to go exploring even if it is places they have been or have not. There are many places in Monmouth County that still exist.
