Empty Campus

Today, I went down to the somewhat abandoned college campus in my city. The college (established in 1875) has maybe 12 buildings and about 7 of them are empty. I figured I go building to building instead of shoving them all together. This set is of one of the dormitories.(Sorry, for the graininess. I'm not a photography person. I'm more of a 'point, shoot, and skip away' sort of person.)

1. The dormitory (built in 1893) has 4 floors (not including an attic and a basement.)

2. The ceiling and floors are a bit iffy, but for the most part everything was fine.

3. Everything was pretty much scrapped. Whether it was by a demolish crew or scrappers I don't know.

4. We heard people down stairs so we hid out in the attic for a bit.

5.

6. The hatch to the roof had been left open. Unfortunately, the view wasn't that interesting. (You can see the water damage on my lens in this pic.)

7. I found some pencil graffiti in a hidden little storage closet. It was a wall of people's names and their 5-digit phone numbers.

8.There was no modern graffiti (other than the pencil graffiti done in the 1890s) and no signs of homeless or kids.

9.

+10.This photo is from one of the two abandon houses that I went to in the same trip. not super interesting.

Thanks :]

Great set! That's a cool place. I've heard of it before but never actually seen pictures or been myself. Welcome to UER!

Thank you for the encouragement :]

(A paper doll is hidden in my favorite room for whoever explores that place next.)

(This paperdoll was for someone so I hid it where I thought they'd look.)

I doubt someone's going to look in the crevices I put my three-inch paperdolls, but that's okay. :]

Pictures 2 & 8 are beautiful! I love that bare wooden-strip behind-the-drywall kind of look in stereotypical dilapidated buildings. So this campus is empty + abandoned, not just empty for summer? Wow.

hi Jordi!

So this campus is empty + abandoned, not just empty for summer?

It's a weird campus. There are active buildings extremely close to abandon building. The buildings basically go active, abandon, abandon, abandon, active. It's still a technically active college. We thought maybe most of the classes are online so they don't need the buildings. We went into the only active building we could find that day and found a bunch of old photos of the campus hanging on the wall. A woman told us we couldn't take pictures of the photos which was ironic since it was kind of obvious that we were just in the abandonment 30 feet over. We were covered with dust and sweat and had photography equipment. I guess it didn't occur to her. yay :]

I adore the paper dolls. Leaving them there for people is kind of neat, caching in a way. Your pictures aren't bad btw. I hope you go back.

your paper dolls are awesome. you should put them in every (non soaking wet) abandonment you visit. i'm sure they'd make random people smile. =)

Older campus buildings are always beautiful. It's sort of depressing to see a school lose it's numbers, though. It's probabl there were/are tunnels between some of the older buildings. Any finds in the basements?

LOL. Looks like maybe the building was abated of asbestos plaster, leaving just the wood lath behind.
