| | Whitby- Storm drain and double abandonment. < on 6/8/2010 8:51 PM >
| | | Hello all: I have been on this site over 3 months now, Love how My hometown is on here. Anyway, I'll get down to it. On Dundas st. there is a fairly large storm drain in-between Pizza Pizza and Stafford monuments. I was wondering if anyone has info on entry, how far it goes and if there is an entry that is not right beside a busy road. I have seen it for a while now and it's bugging me on how to get in there. It looks similar to the one on Brock st. north, Right beside the curling hall but it's round not rectangular. In the same area pretty much right behind the Pizza Pizza, there are 2 houses side by side that look abandoned. Might be worth checking those out! | | | I'm from Whitby as well, and I know all of the locations you have mentioned. Actually, I know the owner of one of the houses/properties on Colborne (the one located more East than the other). The woman (grandmother of a friend of mine) moved out because she was incapable of taking care of the place, so now they are trying to sell the property. | | | How long ago did she move out? the property looks pretty overgrown but absolutely no broken windows or any vandalism at all. I'll only go in if there was an entry but it's looks locked up tight. I actually just discovered them yesterday trying to figure out more about that drain I don't like to go in drains at night but being so close to a main road I don't want to risk attempting to enter there.

| | | Can't hurt to get some basic recon shots in case they get demolished soon, as they tend to, without much notice.

| | | Someday soon I'll try to get back over there. The front of them are so overgrown that even on the sidewalk right in front you can barely make out there are houses in there. But the backyard lawn looks cut?!

| | | was over looking at those 2 houses today that cylon401 found. One has a sign out front of it's front door saying. "Trespassing is not allowed, this place is under Surveillance by police and neighbors". I saw it as we pulled into the long driveway at those locations. The sign is in big letters on white Bristol board on the front door. [last edit 6/10/2010 10:40 PM by webhead2009 - edited 1 times]

| | | So I went by the drain again, It's bigger than i thought! On closer inspection it's actually a huge rectangular thing, Probably 10 feet wide and 6 or 8 feet tall. I would love to just drop down in there and see where it goes.

| | | I didn't have any problems going in from the back of the property, had to hop over a big log but other than that it's not too difficult.

| | | update- I think I found the outfall to that drain. I was exploring and passing by a park I noticed a grate in the middle of the field, going off of that, I went off in the general direction of the drain and found an outfall right rear Garden and Burns streets. I couldn't go to close because of construction right in front of it but either tonight or on the weekend I will check it out.
