Wife, kids and I did the R.O.Pickard sewage plant ("Environmental Centre") today. Lots of bad smells on that tour.

I spoke with some top level guy on the drain side of things (CSO really) and asked him about drainers in Ottawa. He started saying something like, "yeah, a few" and then corrected himself to "lots"...

Also saw Science Museum B building. Lot's of interesting old machinery, signs, bikes, electronics/computing etc. A bit more boring for the kids though, since no touch.

Tomorrow we are planning the Lemiuex filtration plant and Fleet St. Pumping.

I'm planning on hitting Fleet tomorrow, didn't make it today - from what I remember in 2003 it was very old architecture/construction, fairly open, and quite unique...

TSB at the airport was neat.
Hazeldean pumping was surprising - those little bunkers have about 60' of subfloors to 'em!

Incidentally, I know someone who does engineering reports on sewers etc..., and he imparted to me once his shock at the drainers - then again, he just looks at the video reports, he doesn't go down himself.

Unfortunately I couldn't make it to anything on Sat so I missed on a couple, going to try to hit up as much as possible today. Science museum and sewage plant for sure, Fleet street and Lemiuex if we have time.

Checked out Lemieux and Fleet, both had some very interesting... optional extended tours...
I'd be interested to know if there was any way of checking out the tunnels underneath fleet, you can just make out some interesting stonework on an arch down below and there's probably more further in.

I've seen some photos of people exploring it a couple years ago during the winter when they were shut down (probably due to the headrace being worked on)

If you paddle REALLY well, you could just kayak up the backside ;)
