"Is that a security guard?" (Brantford)

Today's adventure was in Brantford. This location proved semi-difficult to enter as it was surrounded by fencing, had an occupied security gate and... well, I'll get to that in a second.

There was so much to see here, so many buildings of interest, that I didn't know where to begin.

Something is missing, isn't it? The photos from the timeframe of leaving the first building to the time where one would exit the location and take the exterior photos. Ahh yes, well dear explorer it was after leaving the first building and taking photos looking down the laneway, that I noticed what appeared to be a person. Is it moving? I had to stare for a moment... yes, it was a person and they were walking toward me. Remembering the nasty trespassing sign that indicated ALL trespassers would be charged, I made a hasty exit.

Next on the agenda was Cockshutt. The visibility of this location, fencing and lack of apparent POE, led me to continue on my way rather than spend time looking for a way in. There were other places to see on this given day.

A quick drive into the downtown area made me salivate. So many old buildings that were abandoned with visible entry points - alas the presence of seamless demolition fencing and work crews deterred me from even trying.

There were many more places to be seen, but they will be a story for another time. As always, thanks for looking.

Dude! Good job at gettin into the first location! The K-W crew went down last summer and the gaurds followed us up and down the fence until we left. I'd love to go back though, Branford has many nice places to enjoy =)

That little downtown section is the coolest. I hope they are renovating and not buldozing it?

There is an easy way inside, it took a while to find it.

I'll be back though, definitely be back this summer.

I'm pretty sure that demolition is in the cards, because there was an article posted in this section, sometime late last year, if I remember correctly.

Now I'm reminiscing. That first location I've been to a couple of times with the old uXc/Mecca crew before we disbanded of course. Had many adventures there. One time, a house across the road watched us breach the fence line. We still proceeded inside. Also remember that one shot you have with the alley/drive beside the building. We were along there trying to find our POE, security comes driving down the lane and we dive in behind a snowbank against the wall till he passes. Another time we were in that building, up on the 3rd floor checking out all the cool shit (this place used to be a flea market at one point); all the sudden we hear a noise, there's like 6 of us. So we shut off our flashlights and wait in the darkness. Then we hear footsteps, climbing the stairs and then stop at the doorway to the large room we were in. Waited a few minutes, then whoever it was left.

Oh good times, and good finds. Looks like they're mostly gutted now compared to the way we found them. Miss that place.

The second location we have never been able to find a POE either, checked it out numerous times.

e-photog: who you cruising around with? Any old schoolers from Mecca days?

Thats not natural, but we got pills for that. We're dedicating all our resources to keeping the old guys erect but we're puttin people in jail for smoking something that grows in the dirt.

Cockshutt is worth getting into. It's amazing what fire can do.

Either go at night or just make a run when nobody is looking in the day. That front gate isn't too hard to get over. And I'm sure you'll find a way in from there (don't really want to post POE in the open, and they also might have sealed the one I am thinking of up...but I doubt that).

as for Grenwhich (I believe that is what the first location you visited is called) I never got in there, sadly. Distracted by activity around back and a trip to the hospital. Been meaning to go back there for years now.

I do believe downtown is now leveled. I thought I seen something in the Hamilton Spec about it. However, I live near by perhaps I'll drive in tomorrow and get some pictures. Oh, and your first location there, I went by the other day. They had a guy driving around in his car, I thought that was rather funny. Nice work on the pictures though, I've always liked it there too.

Its not quite leveled, drove by on Sunday as I was in the area, partial demolition at that point but still buildings standing.

Oh so many memories....

I lived and played in Brantford for nearly 6 years, I just moved to Huntsville at the end of April. Although Huntsville is much nicer for my family, I still miss the Brantford area, it has a different kind of history. There was so much to see, so much to do, and the trails were wonderful.

Check out the location of Kerry Biolab in the west end of the city. It has been vacant for a few years. Still some equipment left inside, very easy POE's but be careful about opening doors, electricity is still on for the fire alarm and I don't know if there is a burlar alarm.
