That movie was super awesome! I stayed up waaaay to late watching it... and I loved that I recognized some names from the forum! When they showed Freak I told my hubby "I know that guy!! Er, sortof... anyways I think he lives in Alaska..."

I also fell in love with Slim Jim as a result... yeah I'm married, happily even, but that guy rules. I think we're soul mates.

Jim's gonna SCORE.

Yeah! Where's Jim at? All the hotties want to go with the moooovie star!

I really enjoyed this movie because so many of my friends are in it! Yay! My only real question is why did they blur out Gatsby's face at the beginning? Is he too awesome to be seen?

the amount of awesome that radiates from Gatsby was too much for the camera, it couldn't handle it and thus couldn't record His image...

Pretty good movie. It finally arrived on Netflix last week.

The only part that I didn't like was those guys in France hanging around in the catacombs sitting around on human remains and eating stinky cheese.

From what Melody has said, "normal" people really like the catacombs scenes - and most explorers think they're crazyboring.

I must have a little "normal" left in me because I didn't mind the catacomb scenes at all..

I liked that catacombs scenes, they were the least exciting part of the movie but still good. The parties down there was cool, and it was rad that other groups just randomly mixed in with them.

Pretty cool, some awesome finds documented. Good perspective into the questionably permissible actions beyond the censorship, ignorance and apathy of regular life. I liked how they showed that homeless people aren't necessarily the scary threat people make them out to be (and how NOT to deal with inquisitive neighbours).
Some great sites to add to my Great World Map of Places to Explore.

The one thing its too bad they didn't capture is solo exploring, which in my mind adds a totally different dimension... There's no cameraderie, just stillness and revelation.

When that Scottish dude is giving the neighbours attitude, I don't know if the footage was cut to make it seem like he was the antagonist but it seemed they were just walking by and would have been happy to see him hop the fence and walk away, and allowing him to circle back once they left, satisfied they had "upheld their citizenly duties" or whatever the crap their problem was. Everyone else could have stayed in there to enjoy themselves and he only would have lost a few minutes instead of having to pull them all out, but his confrontational and aggressive response made it unsafe to stay because he could have pissed them off enough to call the cops, one of the neighbours seemed to say as much as he pulled out his phone.

That's just the way I go about things, but in my opinion it leads to the best outcome for the explorer to be polite and pretend to go along with people like that.

Uh, there were close to thirty people there. 'Just hopping the fence' would have taken about 15 minutes, circle and then back - 30 again. Too much time!

Maybe you should pay better attention when you are watching something and try and grasp that not every country in the world has the same ass backwards legal system as yours?

1. They couldn't 'call the cops' - there is no case to answer in Scotland; what we were doing wasn't illegal and the cops would have laughed at them and told them to fuck off. With a national football match on that day, the chances of a police response for anything less than murder would also be 'unlikely' (that's what we in Scotland call good planning).

2. They were not 'just passers by'; they were the developers of the site (at least the younger one was) - the same developers who have ensured that a 100+ year old building has gone to wrack and ruin and has now burnt down to nothing more than a neat pile of rocks. The very least they deserved was a vitriolic response.

However, when asked to leave by the owner / guard it's the law that you need to leave: which we did. This is also a reason your little idea about sneaking back wouldn't have worked out.

3. What was edited out, was the fact that they had been there for 15 minutes, heckling us. Each and every one of us until that point HAD been perfectly polite; what you caught in the movie was the tail end of the conversation - after which they left us alone. The diplomatic route HAD failed by then.

4. There is no 'citizenly duty' in Scotland to tell people that they are trespassing (which is wrong) and that they can't film without permission on public property' (also wrong) and that they will 'call the local police'. Here we call that 'being a cunt' and we deal with it in very much the same way as you saw on TV.

5. We were actually just leaving anyway (I was just about to make the radio 'all out' announcement when we got sidetracked by it all); which could have been done drama free if old man withers hadn't decided to have a go at those pesky kids and yell at clouds. Many of the other less calm people in the group just wanted to punch them out.

That's a great idea when you are out with a couple of friends; when you have 50+ people at points, some from as far away as Australia? A more direct and to the point approach is needed.

What works for YOU in YOUR country and with your legal system does not always work somewhere else - this was one of the key points of the entire movie. Shame you missed it!

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Fair enough Zutek, like I said I wasn't sure whether the way the footage was cut made it seem like you were the aggressor or not. As for sneaking around, I assumed they hadn't seen everyone, but either way if you were heading out and just wanted to give them shit because they were tearing the place down I can't fault you for it. Anyways that whole citizenly duty bit was sarcasm, I hate people who can't just mind their own business and let us decide on our own what risks we want to take.

My point was more that, generally speaking, its best not to antagonize people when you can usually negotiate better terms either through diplomacy or manipulation, especially when you have a group of people depending on you to represent them. Clearly in your case that was not the fact, I wasn't trying to personally attack you - it just seemed like a good example of how to get your ass handed to you in most situations.

Overall I agree with you matey - polite and compliant where it's called for - and all out dick where and when needed (if polite fails, for one).

All you saw in the movie was the latter though!
