|  | | | An old farmstead that is up for demo very soon. I slipped in after whining in the Rookie forum about the trespassing signs.
I've driven by this place loads of time, checking the traffic, checking the location. High traffic area. Finally I just said "meh" and went in and spent four glorious hours in the place. Hope y'all like 'em!

| | | | All of the trim, baseboards and pocket doors had been stripped - along with the sweeping main staircase in the front foyer. It didn't matter. So much had been left behind... including hundreds of her journals and bible study books. I just adored this house and all of its outbuildings. There were three barns, a garage, a farmhand's house, a potato cellar and an outhouse (two seater). One other barn had already fallen long ago and was just a foundation. The barns even had bottles of liniments and vaccines left in the cupboards. The potato cellar wasn't having any part of me walking on the top floor and the stairs crumbled under me when I tried to get to the lower half. There were eight wells on the property, each capped and marked with a large cinder block. It seemed it was last occupied in 1992. (If anyone cares... I sure did!) The attic shots show several mattresses that were hung over a wire. The animals had gotten into them and ripped them to shreds and there were just piles and piles of feathers. There was also a white quilt that was neatly boxed up in the attic that (when I opened it up to see) wafted the smell of detergent and lavender. I tucked it neatly back in.
It will be a shame to see this house go down.

What's horrible is that nobody gives a shit about what's still there. It will all get rolled under the bulldozer very soon. Some of the slate on the roof has been stripped, but I even feel sad when I see the bulbs that continue to come up at places like this ... someone used to love that garden! Prescription meds, hundreds of journals and nobody gives a shit.
I know the scoop on this place, and know that the property owner will be bulldozing. Not even offering up the beams or barn board. Just gone. It makes me so sad.

The house was left by a 92 year old woman (according to the journals and letters). It really struck with me, as well considering there was a wheelchair across the attic from the open page of those lyrics.
I'm sure she was loved.
