The Fruen Mill

This place was suggested to me by frecklepuss and what a place this was. After an hour or so of using my favorite online research tools (google maps and bings birds eye) I was hooked. We hand our parking spot picked and our plan of attack formed. Although I was still shocked at the size of this place when we arrived.

Here is what awaited us!
My buddies pic.

This is me using my camera as an auxiliary flash.

One of my favorite shots. You can clearly see the big dipper.

All the previous photos were taken by my buddy with his really nice camera. The rest are mine.

We started out by checking out the perimeter for any chinks in the behemoths armor. Lots of urban art!

Climbing on shit.

We saw an opportunity but upon closer inspection we realized it was to unsafe even for us.

This was right after we gain entry.

There is one truth about ladders and that is they were meant to be climbed. This was a man lift that lead up 6 stories to a dead end.

This says it all!

Genious! Why didn't I think of that.

Found a stock pile of either cast or carved ornate stone work.

Hmm? Looks like some one might need some relief.

This place has holes every where in the floor.

More manlift action and more from the Rtard. You know his face is actually stuck like that. He should have listened to his mother.

The one place we were unable to access, the grain elevator.

Inside a storage bin on the roof.

Exiting

Door of instant death! Open this one and its a 150ft drop to the pavement below.

A massive room on top of the main biulding.

I got a question. In almost every place I go thats has bin why are they cut open? Remove the content? Rescue some child?

I saw this guy multiple times.

Well thats all I have for now. Hopefully we'll make back soon to find our way into the grain elevator. Thanks for looking! Hope you enjoyed!

A bit of both probably. It would be a horrible time if you slipped into a bin while exploring by yourself at some long locked up building.

Such great explorers you are! I wish I was more interested in Mills. Me thinks I will explore them through you. I am a klutz and those holes would be the death of me. Kudos!

Holt shit! That landing was still there last summer... Did it fall (was it sitting on top of the landing below?) or was it removed altogether?

Can't find the references to back this up, but I believe someone fell in the bin and was rescued in 2005.

Someone fell through a hole in a floor and died somewhere in the mill in 2006.

why did you deem the ladder un-climable? (the metal one with the cage)
It looked fairly safe from this perspective.
I use the term safe loosely.

Well once you got to the ladder it would swing and looked as if it was held in place by a single bolt. Also our thinking was that we were only there for 20 min at that point, and did not want to potentially ruin our trip at that point.

Here a time line of fruen mill.

Oct. 2005: An 18-yr-old man falls while exploring the abandoned Fruen Mill. He survives. (ST 29Oct2006)

Oct. 2006: A 32-yr-old man dies after falling through a hole in the floor at the Fruen Mill. (ST 29Oct2006)

This one is interesting.
1880–1930: Minneapolis leads the nation in flour production (Mill City)

I am just disappointed that we were unable to make it to the top of the grain elevator.

Looks like a fun playground. The first few shots from your friend are beautiful, if not a little overprocessed.
