Fleck's brewey cave!

Here is more of what we have been busy with.

It all started 4 years ago with a little hike and some old timmer knowledge. I had just moved to faribault after college and I hadn't found that perfect job yet. I had all this free time and nothing to fill it with, so I started exploring the area and talking to people to find out cool things to check out. As it turns out there are many places to find interesting things. The teepee tonka tunnels, which is actually a massive root cellar that was used by the regional center to store the food from the funny farm. Then there are the many farm houses and the Nutting truck and Castor co. foundry. During all this time i was learning about the history as well, and the fleck's brewery was the one thing that always stood out in my mind for the simple fact that there was a cave system. I spent many hours hiking around the brewery site looking for the entrance. Previous ways to get in were very obvious, but the actual one eluded me for about two years. I even went so far as to go out during the winter to look for warm air melting the snow as it came out of the ground. In the end it took a friend's buddy to show us the way in. When I saw it I was shocked and very happy.

Here are the photos from that frist exploration.
This is the first area after the entrance. It was once the basement of the brewery building.

The next step is getting into the cave its self.

Its a six foot drop on the other side. Don't worry there are hand holds.

The first chamber is about 65ft long.

This room has half circles carved into one side. I bet this room had the large vats for aging the beer.

Sorry for the poor image quality. The guy on the left is coming out of a tunnel that used to lead under the road to the bottling plant. unfortunately it has been collapsed and the bottling building is long gone.

Checking out the vent shaft that has been throughly filled.

Looking through to the chamber that might have house the large kegs of beer.

Well thats all i got for now.
Thanks for looking.

that's a neat brewery, the entrance is really fun, and the caves surprisingly large. Did you check out the old sewer tunnels just a stones throw south of there?

A little bit but time was not on our side there. We will be going back shortly! If you have any info on them I would love to hear it. Post it here or PM me.

I'll try to dig up my photos and sketch map from those caves when I get home tonight. They were a lot of fun. We found a few partial Flekenstein bottles in the sand but no intact ones

I seem to dimly recall a vent shaft that went up, then turned horizontal, as well as another high-up entrance in one room. In fact I remember we tried to build a ghettoladder and make Shotgun Mario climb up one of those

I've never heard of the Teepe Tonka tunnels, are those in sandstone?

The nut hospital/prison also has hella tunnels at various levels, I think some locals here went and looked once and found a massive Joker-proof drain cage to keep the nuts in/out.

I know exactly what vert tunnel your talking about, we never made it up there either.

Hear is the drawing I made of the cave.

Here is our first attempt into the abandoned deaf school sewer system that is most likely attached to the cheese caves.

Here's a few of my pics from the Fleck's caves and that sewer:
In the second picture you can see there's a higher level tunnel leading off from the shaft (the pipes bend into it). I'm not sure where that goes.

I think that hole in the ceiling allows the pipes to travel into the next room over, the one with the half circles carved into the walls. When in the room with the half circles you can see where the pipes come out of the ceiling coming from that direction.

How tall do you think the sewer tunnel was where you went in? 3ft?
