Pigg River Hydro, Franklin County VA

I found this place by doing some Google Maps searches of the region. The road maps are not entirely helpful and my first attempt to reach it was foiled by time constraints and a "you can't get there from here" problem with the roads. When I did get there a few days later, it was rather pretty, but physically underwhelming:

The actual structure is a single room for a turbine:

Access is easy, the site has a parking spot or two, no signs and no fences. A mother and her two children were fishing right below the generator building while I was there. The usual hazard warnings apply (falls, rusty metal). There is a water seep near the stairs, making the last few steps exceptionally slimy. A few shots of the building and dam:

It's not the sort of place I'd make a day trip for, but if you're passing through it would be a nice spot for a picnic lunch.

Haha, I live 5 minutes from this place and stop by all the time to take pictures of the dam. Haven't gone in the building though.
