Heading up that way in Mid-October to Memphis. Should have a meet up or something there. Going to revisit some of my favorites, Sterick and Sears for sure, possibly some others. Will update when I have more details or if anyone has suggestions! Gotta love that city!

I suggest that you skip the tourist trap that is the Rendezvous (too pricey, overrated, and too busy) and hit just about any other barbeque joint in town for better ribs. Payne's on Lamar is great for pork sandwiches, and the BBQ Shop on Madison has awesome ribs.

On the UE front, PM Natxtron and see if he's up for sploring, as he knows all the sites and he's an awesome guy.

You sir, are a liar. Rendezvous is amazing food. Considering I was directed there by two separate police officers on patrol in the area, I doubt it's a tourist trap. Just walk in, sit at the bar, and get a beer and some ribs. It's not overpriced either, I dunno what this kid is smoking.

You, madam, are trying to tell a Memphis native that he doesn't know about barbecue.

I must concur with Meta here, it is NOT the best stuff in town. I would suggest Blues Cafe on the corner of Beale and 2nd. Much better food at a much better price. I worked as a historic tour guide of downtown Memphis and would always try to convince "tourist" to NOT go to the Rendezvous.

Show up at 9:30 with 15 dollars cash and your fingers crossed.

I've been TO Memphis. Several times. I've never had a problem there.

x2

I mean certain parts are bad, but there is a good police presence. I mean, I was walking around with my gun, but I had no use for it lol

Lemme tell you, living out here in California now, I'd gladly eat some Rendezvous ribs considering what people here think barbecue is...but they are $30-50 a slab (plus shipping) to get them sent here. If memory serves, there are just better values where you don't feel like you are being herded in and out like you do at Mr. Vergos' place. But the ribs are good sometimes. I guess I've always preferred to eat off the tourist map anyhow, as few places seem to live up to their hype, so I'm sure that affects my opinion of Rendezvous. I feel the same way about the Peabody Hotel. It's nice, ducks, blah blah, but it's not worth the money unless you have it to burn.

That said, if you don't get sauce all over you while you're eating them, they aren't Memphis-style ribs anyway. Same can be said to a lesser extent about pulled pork sandwiches (which MUST also have slaw on them).

As for Memphis's reputation regarding crime, it is well-earned, although I've only been held hostage at gunpoint whilst being carjacked once in the twenty-four years I lived there, so that's saying something.
