The Quantum did have a longitudinally mounted engine (ACTUALLY... it was called the Passat in Europe) but the Passat we got here was always a transverse engine. The VW Fox also used a longitudinally mounted engine/transaxle, but it was a bit of a bastard child itself, from Brazil and designed for an aircooled fat foure, but sold with a liquid cooled inline 4. OH... and it was the Eagle Premier, which was some Chrysler/Mitsubishi/Volvo/Renault/AMC abortion.
|
thanks Bandi... i thought it was the Fox. that Eagle Premier was a flaming piece of shit.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

I would go as far as saying part of it at that time ( late 60's to early 80's ) Americans wanted to see the belts near the front. Kinda a way of easing us into FWD.

the nice thing about a Saab 900 was that it took maybe two hours to change a clutch out of them

Bollocks. It hasn't aged as well as it could, but when it first arrived (86) it made jaws drop with it's futuristic styling, computer controlled everything and digital displays (that actually worked). It quickly gained the nickname 'the wacky wedge'. Its major drawback though? It was very heavy for its size so the 1.7 Turbo could only belt along at 115Mph with 0-60 coming in around 10 seconds [stock]. Despite the weight, the high torque engine (based on a Renault design) could still pull back economy of around 40mpg. Its major plus point? It was very good in a crash - very good indeed. Chris...

Between a 71 and a 72 there was different script on the trunk. Between a 72 and a 73, the 72 had horizontal sportlamps while the 73 has vertical. There's some difference in the graphics also. Or you could just do it the easy way.....look at the first digit on the VIN. For 71, it's 1. For 72, it's 2. For 73, it's 3.

| | | I found one here in Boulder County CO, at the bottom of a hill. It had obviously rolled down off the canyon road. I'll post a picture of it when I take one on digital. And there is an abandoned one on a horse trail in the less beaten areas; it looks like a 57 Chevy, but shot to hell with rifles. It seems like on less tended roads; if you get stuck, you have to leave it there, and there it stays.
