|  | | | Enfants de Dieu, nous sommes ici réunis pour célébrer l'arrivée auprès de Dieu le père d'un autre projet qui ira rejoindre le repos éternel aux cimetière des projets qui ne se termineront jamais, barbouillant la ville d'un autre gros éléphant blanc abandonné qui finira par brûler, s'écrouler ou juste être démolis.
C'est aujourd'hui au tour du bloc de rue Théâtre Séville/rue Ste-Catherine :
Le secteur de l'ex-théatre Séville, dans l'ouest de Montréal, sera revitalisé
(CP) – Il y a 2 heures
MONTRÉAL — Deux promoteurs immobiliers s'associent dans le développement d'un ensemble résidentiel de plusieurs centaines d'appartements en copropriété dans le secteur immédiat de l'ancien théâtre Séville, du côté nord de la rue Ste-Catherine Ouest, entre les rues Chomedey et Lambert-Closse, à Montréal.
Développements Immobiliers Seville, l'entité formée par les deux partenaires, Claridge Investments et Prével, prévoit investir plus de 100 millions $ de dollars pour la construction d'appartements de qualité à des prix qu'on dit abordables. Des espaces commerciaux sont également prévus au rez-de-chaussée de cet ensemble résidentiel.
Les partenaires comptent présenter un programme de travaux à l'arrondissement Ville-Marie au cours du mois de mai pour obtenir l'autorisation d'effectuer les travaux de démolition et de préparer le site en vue de la construction qui devrait débuter dès l'automne pour permettre une première livraison au printemps 2012.
Le théâtre Séville a fermé ses portes il y a environ 25 ans.
Parmis les autres perdus du purgatoire du redéveloppement "c'est vraiment un projet novateur" de Montréal, le cimetière compte déjà :
-La Gare Viger
-La Place des nations
-le Village Griffintown
-les shops du CN/Alstom
-le réalignement de l'autoroute Bonaventure
-le CHUM
-Le 2-22 Ste-Catherine
-L'édifice Wilder
-Le Spectrum
-Tous le bloc sud/ouest Ste-Catherine/St-Laurent
...

Le projet est backé par de gros joueurs, des noms très respectés et connus ici.
De plus, la clientèle visée par ce projet ( logements étudiants et abordables) est en très forte demande contrairement aux projets plus luxueux.
Alors selon moi ( sous toute réserve) ce projet va décoller comme prévu, avec peut-être quelques mois de retard.

2-22 devant ouvrir en 2009 à l'origine
PDN : y'a eu une restoration complète en 1991-92 et pourtant, aucun entretien après  Et là, y'aura démolition des passerelles.

Je l'avais visité en 1995 alors qu'il restait encore des trucs à voir.

That makes no sense to me. They've been trying to keep the front of the seville from falling for the past 20 years. They spent so much money to do so and now they can destroy it? Weren't they going to take it down and rebuild it anyways? with the new building. What a shame, they should of just destroyed it 20 years ago instead of going thru all that trouble!

I thought they neglected it until it fell down on it's own but put in place stuff to prevent bricks from falling outwards onto people walking by... yet they still left it to rot cause of the historic building laws the building had...
I dont actually know, except the part about the block being left to rot.
dont you find it crazy though? Downtown montreal, hot girl capital of the world, fast food capital of the world, home of one of the most renowned jazz festivals, home of the canadian grand prix.... we are hollywood north... yet an entire block was left as a complete ghost town for years... it makes me wonder how this happened. (keep in mind I didn't do research and didn't keep up to date on the topic)

oh yeah... that sign that was fun... I remember trying to dodge the water drips while passing under that...
a lot of bricks fell very true. that was dangerous! They really needed to put something there.
