| | | Hello UER, I was wondering it anyone's been around the old AF Gallun Tannery in milwaukee lately. I was out there last week- tried to get into the smaller remaining building and had little luck... long story short, an overly advantageous friend decided to make a jump and needed to be quickly carried off the property. Saw good access on the other side of the property, but it was the middle of a sunny day, and didn't feel like risking it with apartment buildings on either side of the lot. Anyone been in there of late- I really want to go back. ** Side note: there was a health dept. letter on the front door stating that after 3/8/10 the building was to be considered unfit for human habitation and anyone found inside would be arrested and ticketed.... seems off that they picked last monday... any ideas?

| | | What a weird letter... take a pic and post it if you get the change. I was in Gallun a little while ago and it seemed pretty fine to me. Not a lot to look at, but the wood floors and freight elevator kick ass.

| | | A friend of mine and his associate were shooting some footage there a couple of weeks ago. He stuck is head out at the wrong time and was face to face with an MPD cop. Shortly there after 6 squads, a K9 and the D1 sergeant were storming the building. I played the role of Chloe O'Brien. Needless to say, they got arrested. They were both subject to a class B forfeiture and released.

| | | Posted by shotgun mario i'm pretty sure they've had some trouble with a squatter or two there in the past, so that might be the reason they threw that out there. so your friend tried to climb the rebar on the north side of the smaller building? Hmm... I should go take a peak.
|
Yeah, he actually climbed in just fine, but I've got knee issues so I wasn't about to risk it- he walked around trying to find a batter access point, when he couldn't and I wouldn't climb up the rebar he tried to come down, but realized there were too many rusty nails etc. to just lower himself. We tried to clear enough snow away that he could just jump down into the dirt but he half landed on a loose cinderblock & popped his knee very hard. -Upside was that I got to watch one of my friends piggyback the other down water street 10 minutes later when we decided to get lunch and enjoy the looks on the faces of passing motorists. -Have either of you ever gone in there in broad daylight? What's the local/cop response like? I was planning to go again @ night & try my hand at some flash work, waddya think?

Hang on, you wrote this while I was replying, what do you mean by playing the role of Chloe O'Brien, and what's a class B forfeiture?

| | | i've been inside during the day & night. Just hop the fence when no one's around, and quickly & quietly move across the field. People will most likely see you, but if you don't make a big deal of it, there ought to be no reason for them to call anyone. Just walk across the field like you own the place, or were hired to take some photos. Honestly, unless you're using the place as a filmset, I don't see what the draw is to go back multiple times... unless you're introducing other explorers. it's just floorboards, columns and four walls. | | | Wowsa, The greeting from six wonderful LEO's does not sound like much fun. So, this person who did get caught was released without a ticket?

| | | Chloe O'Brien, from 24. Always in front of a computer and talks to Jack Bauer on the phone. My associate called me while he was on the roof and wanted some help "getting out of the situation". I tuned in my scanner to hear them clearing the building. I suggested he turn himself in, which he did. A class B forfeiture is the minimum penalty given for anyone who is cited for unlawful trespass to private property.

But then you both still got caught & had to pay off this forfeiture ticket thing, right?

| | | I didn't get caught because I wasn't there. My associates turned themselves in. The tickets got quashed though.
