| | Burnt Out Boxcar < on 3/12/2010 5:18 AM >
| | | I stumbled upon this back in the summer when I was scouting out the abandoned McCormick's factory. It was in a lot right by Randal Klein Design and the railway tracks. Although not huge (and not much to explore obviously) it was a an unexpected and welcome surprise. It looks as if some homeless people may have used it as shelter, as there were lots of old food cans and other assorted garbage. I have no idea why that boxcar was there and why it was burnt out. Maybe it caught fire before it was placed there, maybe after. If anyone does know anything about it, let me know. I visited it on June 9 2009, and maybe 2 or 3 weeks later when I returned it was gone.

| | | That's an outside braced wood boxcar, very old (think pre-1950's, probably retired in the 50's to 70's). Chances are it was near the end of its lifespan and just given to whoever company owned the building at the time for storage. Cabooses and boxcars were often given or donated to companies/individuals for use as office space, storage, etc. There's a number of old boxcars around Toronto that serve as storage or other uses (a mini golf course near Jane & Finch has some).
Keep it fuzzy. |
