SO, the other day the ole warbird and i went over to my favorite explore (which is even more interesting because my grandpa who now lives in texas was the plant president in the 80's), and wandered around for a bit, and found a room id never been in before, which was full of these shelves

which were used to store plaster molds like these

that one was about 6 inches high, took it close up for detail

i couldn't guess what that is, but the way these worked, was they placed them in a box, then added what my g-pa just called "mold sand" (im sure it has a much fancier name) with a curing agent, let the sand harden, and removed the plaster mold, then the two halves of the hardened sand mold were joined and the steel poured in, and allowed to cool, then you knock the hard sand off the cooled part with a chipping hammer and SHA-BAM you have a part.

we also ran across the following nifty shit

various controls for the cranes and equipment used to unload rail cars
(this was above the foundry, and below and to the side of the mold room)

an old ass data tape thingy-ma-bobber

and a hood from the trucks that were made when white motor co. built trucks in the plant originally

Isn't it funny how the that works? You go to all the effort of going to and into the place and you keep all the pics on the camera until you happen to find the "time" to get em off... Cool looking place.

Turns out I haven't uploaded pics from my camera in a while. Oops!

So here's a couple of pics:

NOT IN USE:

Old computer is old.

Asbestos free!

But not dust free *cough*:

After seeing this exact sign at another location in Springfield, this made me giggle:

Obligoratory bathroom shot. This sink intrigued me:

Lots of old truck parts in this place...those White and Mack parts had stickers from the 80s on them.

Mr. Peanut says: Thanks for checking us out!

That wash-up sink probably has pedals under it.

Sinks like that are handy at shift change when there are 50 guys who need to wash up at the same time.
