My opinions are not those of even an experienced photographer.

I often like the washed out look of photos like #1... But you took it to a serious extreme that I really don't care for.

Love #4, it's definitely my favorite of the set.

Love #4

4 is a great shot bro

Thanks, I took this one today.. It was about 20 degrees with fog and heavy wind but really wanted to take advantage of the fog. We rarely get any and a lighthouse is classic fog material.

#1... But you took it to a serious extreme that I really don't care for.

This one is hit or miss but mostly miss.. it seems that the people who like this photo really really like it though.. me being one of them. Anyway, this is the second photo I ever edited with photoshop. While I was editing the first one I pushed the Highlight clipping warning button and so I had a black and red picture as i was messing with it and didn't even realize it was this blown out until I had finished editing it... I thought the photo had just been ruined in some way I hadn't ever seen but i was having fun playing with it.. then I figured out what had happened and pushed the highlight clipping warning button again and made it black and white which removed some green that was in it.

Usually when I see anything with the pop out gallery I just hit the back button. Embed your photos, its not hard.

1) I'm not even sure what you are going for with this. I cant really tell what the subject is, I think I see some train tracks at the bottom though...

2) Snapshotty. Its underexposed and lacks composition. The biggest flaw is the boring colors, because it looks like it would be really interesting and colorful in person.

3) Also lacks composition, there is not enough space around the stone. Applying the rule of thirds would have benefited this one a lot. Tones are pretty flat and boring: the blacks arent deep enough, the midtones seem a little too dark, and there are no highlights.

4) Strongest of the set. Awesome subject and decent composition, but it could have been so much more. There are some awesome lines here, but you could have used them better. The tones are still flat here, as well. Just doing a little curve adjustment can do a lot for this

1: I like the concept, but you took it too far

2: Needs more lighting towards the left

3: Interesting but bland

4: Great shot

4 is the strongest of the set, hands down, well composed, and great use of B/W.

1 - yeah....no.

2 - a little dull. You need to fix the focus, try aiming head on at the tag so that is level across the frame, also the colours are dull and greyish they need to pop!

3 - decent, but get in a little lower and closer to the subject.

Thanks for the strong input guys. I feel like I've pulled some good information here. I'll go out this weekend and return with some new photos.

#4 is ridiculously awesome. I'm a sucker for lighthouses / nautical stuff anyway, and the fog in this one is incredible.

"Thrice happy is the nation that has a glorious history. Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt
