Nootz, what happened?

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Well, getting back on topic, N250cc and I are going out tomorrow (later today) to check out the bunker. Anybody who would like to join us is welcome.

Ok, so this structure is definitely NOT a bunker. We figure it was once a reservoir for a graphite quarry that we found not far from the structure.

A pic from inside the hole with the ladder in it:

Neither, it was too wet out to go find it. I had some rain gear, but my buddy had none. So we went up to Connaught Battery and York Redoubt for about ten minutes at a time.

I almost blew away at Connaught. And I took a look at that bunker just outside the gate at YR, it's completely flooded.

Hopefully it'll dry out by summer.

Not likely, there's nowhere for this water to go. There used to be an 8" pipe connecting to it that had water flowing to the reservoir by the looks of one of the cells. And we could hear some water still trickling into the first cell we came across.

At YR? Its draining somewhere or else the water line would of been a lot higher from the rain and snow last winter, but it was only like half a foot when i was there.

Ohhh, haha. I thought you meant the reservoir.
Yeah, it's hard to say about the bunker at YR though. If there's a downhill drainage, then the water should come out somewhere near the cliff. But when I was there a couple weeks ago, the water was probably about three or four feet under the bottom of the vent.

Well, considering there's no visible road back there, I'd say probably around WWI era. More than likely not to be military. If I had to guess the years, I'd say between 1910 and 1930.

Well, I've confirmed that there were at least three granite and graphite quarries along that little stretch of Purcells Cove Road.

1) Across from Yacht Club
2) Where reservoir is
3) Now where 18th Battery Drive is

If I can find the site where I've confirmed these sites again, I'll post it.

Yeah it does look like it must have something to do with the quarries. Think there's any point in going down in and taking a look? A few weeks ago it was dry.

I found out there's a geocache back there, so I might take at least one more trip out to find it.
