Unknown Bunker/fortification.

Hello, I believe I have found a unknown military installation about 2km from york redoubt. I was walking my dog in the woods behind my home and we got off the path, and were going threw some deep brush until we got to a clearing where we found what I think is some kind of bomb shelter. There are 4 or 5 small entrances that go strait down, the floor underneath is about 7ft under the surface. I don't believe anyone has been here for quite along time because it was basically in the middle of nowhere and there was no sign of people being there (Graffiti, garbage).

I will try and get some pictures tomorrow and I think you'll find this pretty interesting.

Max.

Hey, welcome - I recognize your username from SSP (I'm "alps" over there). Sounds neat, keep us updated. Is it within the York Redoubt boundaries?

looks like you were on your way to Tea Lake, correct? Is this bunker visible from the path?

I'm sure the path does lead to Tea Lake (just moved not familiar with the area) But the bunker was not visible from the path. The area is full of small hills and it is in a valley between two hills. It's quite hard to see even when your close. But once you get to it and look down it seems quite complex inside (rooms, etc) I haven't been inside yet because im not sure if there's anything living in there but once i know ill probably try to go down.

I've been looking on GE and haven't been able to find any sort of structure in the woods. Which leads me to believe it's probably covered over. Do you think you could give a less general region to be looking?

There is almost no above ground structure, its all below the surface. There are 4 holes that are very similar to this.

And there is a larger 5th one at the end but this one seems to have collapse in. There's no way it can be visible from GE, there too small. There just big enough so that one person can get threw at a time. I will be going out tomorrow morning and getting some pictures and maybe we can figure out what it is.

If the "entrances" are similar to that, then they're almost guaranteed to be ex-military, as there are such structures at Connaught Battery. Could you tell if there were any above ground structures at any point?

There are some signs that there was above ground structures at some time, There's a lot of carved rock and some of it even resembles a foundation. Any idea what period those entrances where built?

based solely on the similarity and proximity to Connaught Battery

I wonder if at that time they had the technology to build a tunnel from there too the Connaught Battery?

Connaught Battery doesn't have any known tunnels. Just underground structures, like powder magazines and possibly barracks and a plotting room. It wouldn't make much sense to have tunnels spanning that distance anyways. Especially for that era.

Ok, so I'm going out to search for this bunker on Friday, if anybody's available and wants to join me, I'd be more than happy to have the company.
I only have two questions before I head out:

1) How far off the path is it?
2) Is there a lot of bushwhacking involved?

I'll have my camera and some glowsticks for if I find it.

Probably between 12:00 and 1:00. I'll be up first thing in the morning, but it's more or less to prepare for the day.

I would show you the way myself but I will be out of town, Ill try to give you guys some kind of map because without it finding the area would be fairly difficult. There is a bit of bushwhacking but overall it's not too bad.

I went today and took some pictures which I will post tomorrow, I found A LOT more. At least 3 more entrances a clear foundation and even some brick work. I now believe this is a tunnel. It was flooded today because all the melting snow but if the weather is good by Friday you should be able to go down.
