| | Miami Mart 3rd Floor < on 2/22/2010 1:45 AM >
| | | Well I'm new so hopefully I'm putting this in the right forum and everything.. On a recent trip to Miami for Infinite Bits (a gaming convention) My friends and I stumbled upon what seemed to be an abandon floor of Miami Mart (a mall connected to the hotel we were staying at). We explored for a good 4 hours or so, expecting security or someone to throw us out eventually. We found what ranged from abandon stores to fully furnished and lit (but abandon) offices. It was quite an eerie environment.

| | | I really don't think that's abandoned. I think you guys just happened to go in on an off-day. I mean, there's a jacket on the back of that chair! But I could be wrong. Also, blazers + boardshorts = the UE gear of champions. I give my props to you. On another note, I hope I'm not being trolled.

| | | Well half the place was lit up and had the furnished offices, but then on the other end (picture with the safe, glove on table, arcade game) everything was dark, with boxes stacked in the store areas and a starbucks sign just laying there in one room we went in. By the way thats me reaching for the clock in that picture, the other two are Tyler (red blazer) and luke. I was mainly the photographer the whole time.

| | | The starbucks obviously was, what with the sign being down, dust being everywhere and all the coffee making machines and such being out of service. While half the building was in use as offices, the other half, as I said, seemed to be abandoned shops (boxes everywhere, concrete floors, misc. items scattered about). Perhaps I used the wrong word in the beginning, but I'm pretty sure this still counts as urban exploring (i.e. examination of areas normally unseen or off-limits). So I apologize if "abandoned" is the wrong word.

| | | Lmao! Seriously?? Be forewarned, what I'm about to say is constructive criticism, I'm not attacking you guys. That place is VERY active, as in the employees were there a few hours before you. Shit, you can even see the jackets of the employees on some of the chairs! Better hope you werent caught on any cameras, though shouldnt be an issue assuming you didnt damage or take anything. I work in an office, there is dust everywhere with various equipment out of order, not every office is pristine and flawless. It can appear "abandoned" to the unexperienced eye, but take this as experience, that place is ACTIVE. And there areas you went in with boxes, I'm gonna say that was storage for an active place. I dont think its very wise to go into an active office place (I understand you may not have known that at the time). If I had seen all those lights on and obvious personal items on and around the desks, I would have made an about face and left. If you were caught, saying you were taking pictures of an office area wouldnt hold up well at all, in fact its highly suspicious. Was it "urban exploration", well thats kinda open to opinion. But I can tell you its not what you would call an "off limits" area. Now if this were the office of the CIA, I would say "awesome job, now remove those photos before they throw you in government jail". You have the right idea, just not the right place, in my opinion anyways.

| | | Well you explored, active or not! So good job. I was at Infinite Bits as well. If you remember the Arcade area, those were our games I had a feeling part of that place was abandoned. Saw the steps closed off with the roll down gate. I did get to check the back loading areas when we were moving the games in and out. Was a cool old place and is being neglected that's for sure. I came here to say this. Urban Exploration isn't all about abandoned buildings. There's a lot more to it and exploring active sites is part of it as well.

| | | That place is WACK. I remember the second floor used to have quite a few shops in it the year Yasumicon had some night events there. The next time I was there, during Supercon, those shops were all gone. Really interesting place... I remember getting lost on the second level, and didn't even know there WAS a third... huh. Perhaps I'll check that out at some point. As I recall, there's some kind of access through the hotel, but I never actually found it. Are there stairwells or other interesting ways of getting through there? (yes, spell checker, I know your dictionary doesn't have hits for Supercon or Yasumicon. POST ALREADY! XD)
Mmmm... the sweet smell of damp concrete. <3 |

| | | i dunno why everyone is so hung up on urbex being solely based in this idea of abandonment that being said: 1) Photos of active office buildings are generally not interesting 2) What the fuck is going on in this thread?
