Hey I'm pretty new to UrbExing and am trying to take it head on. My friend (Ashes in the Snow) took me out in N.C. in January and gave me a taste of the passion. I've done some considerable scouting around west Michigan, namely the muskegon/grand haven areas and have some pretty sweet prospects but would love someone or a group of someones to take it to the next step and possibly show me the ropes or if you're just looking for a +1 newb to go out and explore with hit me up. I'd be willing to share my conquests and prospects in the area. Also, I grew up in Grandville and know a ton of places around there..

I'm over on the west side myself working right now and I'd love to meet up with some people. I haven't had much time to get out and scout while I've been over here, but I've got a line on one building over near Lk. MI I want to go check out.

I'm glad to see there's some interest around here. I was expecting that there wouldn't be anybody nearby. I haven't found any schools or prisons or anything amazing like that but there are so many abandoned buildings around here. I was taking a look at an old fortress of a building today. There's cameras around but I'm not sure if they're still functioning. The whole place is gated up to keep people out and has barbed wire but it should be a pretty easy entry. The snow on the ground is a deterrent right now though. I'll PM you both tomorrow.

I also have been born and raised in Grandville...where exactly?

Grew up on Gable St. just off of Ivanrest.
There's lots of places by my old home. Have you done much UE in Gville? It's a gold mine like Muskegon.

and I'd love to meet up with some people.

Anytime man, I've got a few that I've scouted out pretty heavy, there's an old bank here that I'm dying to get into. Are you here for a while?

Being from MN we get alot of snow, just as much as MI does.

Heres my 2 cents..

If the place has cameras and its questionable look for 2 things then use your own experience and common sense.

Is there alot of vehicle traffic and at the night are the lights on the exterior or interior of the building..

Those will usually give you a decent idea if the building(s) 1) are even powered, and, 2) if the cameras are possibly active.

Its never a guarantee but its usually a good indicator.

Oh nice, good advice toxic. This building has a lot of cameras and a "guard shack", for lack of a better word, at the front gate that occasionally has a car at it. Also, there is a building on the edge of the compound is active but it's just another company that leased a small section of one of the buildings and is closed at night. I'll have to run by tonight and check out the power situation for the rest of the place, I could imagine them being inactive. Actually another plan would be infiltrating the guard shack under some sort of guise and seeing if they have monitors and what other kinds of security they might have. Hrmmmm. Thanks for the advice toxic. Any other advice or suggestions are definitely welcome. Maybe someone has an idea for the guard shack that I may try.

Ps: toxic, does that happen to be your ps3 screen name?

I'm unfortunately not located there now, but I was born in Wyoming. My grandparents owned a farm in Wayland I used to love to photograph; it's still standing, but both grandparents are gone. If I ever make my way back there for a holiday or a visit back, I can take you through it

If you look around downtown GR, there are plenty of abandoned buildings there, and most of eastbrook mall is abandoned/boarded up storefronts. If you head down the 131 towards wayland, you'll find plenty of older farms, equipment, etc. down that way as well.

I'd love it if you'd take me through it. Michigan is full of potential, and it's only getting better with the economy still tubed. I found some pretty awesome places today just coasting through the city of Muskegon. There's buildings all over with the vehicles and equipment still sitting in front of boarded up buildings. I'm shocked there's not more in west michigan. I'll be adding to the member list tough, as I track down explorers.

I am in the West Michigan area as well and would be interested in exploring with some seasoned people. I have very little first hand experience as of yet but am very interested and pretty clear headed/ not prone to being needlessly stupid

If i ever end up visiting back there, I will let both of you know Hopefully sometime this year. Since it's our family farm, i'd rather take anyone through there as opposed to just giving the location of it. I might be bias, but i find it rather awesome

Hi everyone,

My name is Jim. I live in Grand Rapids and have been UR'ing for about 10 years in this area. From Chicago and south, and up to the UP.

If anyone is serious for a meet up and holds the value of abandoned facilities like I do, we should meet.

No scrappers, graffiti, theft or smashing of abandoned property. If that's what you like then please do not respond.

You can PM me. I check the forum regularly
