At first, I was quite sad. Then I realized that this has potential UE possibilities. I am still sad, however. D:

Dude...this is really exciting. This is the 2nd Six Flags to go out of business in the last several years and they haven't started any new ones that I know of. I wonder if the whole franchise is struggling?

EDIT: I just looked up their stocks and the value has been declining overall for about the last two years:
http://www.google.com/finance?q=sixfq.ob (but I know stock value isn't always a perfect indicator of how well a company is doing)

EDIT #2: And more interesting stuff on their Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedi...x_flags#Bankruptcy

Not according to them. They say they've been struggling with a ridiculous lease for years, and that this was one of the few parks not on company property.

EDIT #1 - Hmm. The Wikipedia info is new to me. Though it seems that they could be doing a lot worse. I'm just curious as to what will happen to our park, specifically. That's a lot of land. Haha

Go figure. I have not been to a Six Flags in quite a few years, but last time I was there a bottle of water cost like $3 and a coke like $5 or something ridiculous like that. I hope they all shut down, lol. They will be more fun to explore abandoned then as a paid operating attraction. ha

I doubt it will be truly abandoned, or that all the rides will be moved. SFKK is also the fairway for the Kentucky State Fair, and merely operated by Six Flags. The state may find another, small operator to take over day-to-day operations. Some of the SF-bought attractions will move, but many others will remain.

Actually, all of the Six Flags rides are getting dismantled and moving to other parks, according to the news report. I doubt that it'll be truly abandoned, but it doesn't have to be to sneak in and take some good pictures.

SFNE will NEVER go under. Not until the entire economy tanks, at least. Agawam hosts one of the most profitable parks, before it was SF it was Riverside. And even if SF goes under the park will be bought by another company or private investor because the profit margins are huge.

It's the "best" theme park serving:
Hartford, Worcester, Springfield, Boston, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhodes Island... Even New York. Especially because the Mass Pike takes you almost directly there and it's a halfway point between NY and Boston.

Perfect location with plenty of employees and customers.

if you read the news article, you'd see that they mentioned that that park was the only one closing as they "restructured under bankruptcy." so yeah, the whole franchise is struggling to some degree. =P

I visited the St.Louis Six Flags as a little shaver. I'd hate to see any of them go under were it not for the cost of refreshments. What that does is puts less wear on the Rides and more money in their pockets with people digging deep for water and refreshments and therefore skipping rides based on what they lost on refreshments. Memphis has lost our only amusement park, Liberty Land over a year ago. That was a loss because they had some cool coasters such as the Revolution and the Zippin' Pippen.Plus even if you didn't actually go in the park gave the city a retro kind of bustling 1930's vibe if you can imagine. On my last visit I was seated next to a fat person on an orbital ride and was nearly ejected from the ride. I guess that experience has rather cooled me on this whole amusement park vibe.

Tread ye gently my brethren.

Well, I haven't been in person and I never believe these things until I see for myself, but from what I've heard, and also according to the Wikipedia article, all of the rides have been either sold or demolished now:

There wont be any Good UE in kentucky kingdom... It'll be more like running from security guards all night long. The park is closed but is sposed to reopen. The state of kentucky also has guards in place so six flags doesnt try to remove any rides, because the state fairboard owns the land. Because the fairboard owns the land, they are trying to say all the rides attached to their land is owned by them, not six flags... Even though six flags has been paying property tax on most of what they built there. It's turning into a really ugly legal battle really fast actually. Apparently six flags has people on standby at the park to make sure kentucky doesnt do anything, and vice versa...

Also the chain has been struggling but Its not down and out for the count... Cedar fair is actually worse of than Six flags right now.
