Yeah, what he said. There are lots of explorers in Columbia. I've explored there with big groups of locals. I know it might seem silly sometimes, but people are slow to trust people who are new to these forums. I mean you've been a member for two years but you haven't posted much or gone to any meetups. You'll meet people eventually though. Don't give up. Just keep posting stuff. Pictures, especially.

And make explorers out of your "normal" friends for now.

I'm only about an hour away, and the things i've explored there were more than decent.

lol, look at all these people.

There's a friendly bunch right in Columbia, actually; we somehow tricked them into coming up to Raleigh and Richmond. Go find them! Preferably at a meetup, not in their shower or something creepy.

What if we hold the next MAMU in LordNikon's shower?

Then we'd need machetes for our drains. And waders.

You guys are going to force me to clean out my bathroom...that's no fun!

Anyway, Subterra, just send me a pm. I'd be happy to explore with you.

I've been looking for people to explore with, but the only person I know of on here, I only tried contacting once and stopped when the weather got freezing cold. I've also been looking into visiting Columbia a bit, so I'd be happy to explore down there.

Talk to Aurelie. She's in Charlotte and always looking for people to explore with there since Charlotte has a bit of a shortage. Also, Zippo is in Spartanburg. And there's also DroolDog, TheOpposite and Solstice in that general area. And I go there sometimes.

Yeah, Zippo is the one that I contacted, but never got around to exploring with because it got way to cold to do anything at the time.

The upstate has a bit to offer. Not a lot but enough. I'm in Spartanburg county (Well northwest next to NC line and Greenville county line.) Lemme know if your up this way. Since I'm currently out of work I'll show ya a few places right here in my hometown.

Really about two years ago (before the BC Components Factory closed down, and the Bull Street Asylum became super secure with all the guards once they started trying to sell the property) it wasn't much of a problem finding other people who wanted to go and check out the different places, and I still have a group of about 5 people that explore with me still...but we at one point had like over a dozen people that were involved and slowly lost them either to getting married...lol...or moving away and one or two simply lost interest in the hobby. But for the 5 hard core friends of mine that are into urbex we still go out pretty much at least once a week to find a place to chill. Now its become mostly frequenting one of several 'favorite' spots that we have...
I guess I want that large organized efforts to explore the pipes and abandoned factories and textiles around the outskirts of the city and what not are what I'm trying to rebuild again. I'd like to have a small network of locals, and a few more regional places where we stay in a more personal network of communication as I've started to build one with a friend of mine who now lives in Charleston.
I have visited Charleston a few times and that place is chock full of sights to explore...SC has some real gems with all the textile mills that closed down...and subsequently the towns that were built around them kind of died out...
I'm not sure why things stagnated so much or why interest seemed to wane after the summer of two years ago, but I have a feeling that this summer there will be a bit of a revival in urbex...especially with all the cool new gear and tools that we've collected now > night vision is the shit baby. heheh...some of these are from 4 years ago...3 years...2 years and some from earlier this year so its sorta just a hand picked assortment of crap
Anyway, I'll upload some photos right now for you guys to get some samples of stuff i've posted...
