Open hearth steel?

Hi,

Posting this in NE and GL since I'm on the border (Pittsburgh).

Does anyone know of a steel mill, active or dead, that has a standing open hearth furnace? No, not a blast furnace.

Below is a link to a guys flickr pics from USS Homestead while it was being demolished. It shows the open hearths. Yes, I'm green with jealousy that he was there to capture it.

Thanks

Book your plane tickets to the Ukraine. I'm pretty sure all OHF's were replaced with BOF's in this counry.

What about in Lorain OH?

The North/South building with the stacks on one side.

Could be an open hearth, no?

Is there any place in America where the factories are actually *expanding*? Am I 5 decades too late?

Doubtful. Thats a hot rolling facility and likely produces steel by a basic oxygen system.
