I'll only watch your video if it's of you pissing on a couch and looking shady doing it.

For a group of middle aged males who's greatest interest in life is breaking into abandoned buildings and exploring sewage drains, it's pretty astounding that you guys get so personally offended by us throwing a broken xbox, a cheap guitar, a shitty rain destroyed desk chair and a piece of scrap metal off the top of an abandoned grain mill in the middle of a open field, surrounded by several junkyards. I know you guys are so legitimately worried about the public's image of urban exploring, and for all the damage to that image that my video has caused I am profoundly sorry. I am just glad that there are explorers with such integrity that wouldn't dare doing anything to damage the historical image of a place like United Crushers.

Some nice pictures, and it looks like you guys have seen a lot of locations. I enjoyed the video, but vandalism/throwing stuff like that is generally frowned upon here because it attracts undue negative attention. It's best to leave no sign that you were there, so the buildings stay accessible longer for everyone to enjoy.

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!
Don't try to have a UER e-penis! You won't impress anyone! This especially means you, Minneapolis MN newbies!

I guess we just get tired of things getting sealed due to such activity. If you aren't concerned about ever getting access to a building again, or just plan to smash your way in next time, then it's not an issue, but there's a few really awesome sites around that I bet you guys would like to see, that have sadly been sealed due to idiocy.

If the site is truly bullshit and you really want to get it sealed, do it in an badass way like launching fireworks from the roof or flying a huge flag. At least put some effort into it and entertain some people. Also chairs make cooler noises when you drop them down the inside of the silos, not the outside, duh.

Also, have you guys never read the paper? http://www.startri...ocal/70379007.html
Yeah the seriousness is a bit different, but all it takes is one property owner complaining to the cops. And let me stress again, there are cops on UER, and there are property owners on UER, specifically from the Twin Cities. This has been documented in past threads, I'm not just making shit up.

Sometimes you need to read between the lines. Sometimes, things happen, and videos get taken. They usually don't get posted for all to see, but rather stay in house. If such videos even existed, and if they did, I'm sure they would star just some guys we don't even know. But more the point, they wouldn't get on a publicly viewable forum for the cops and property owners to download them and log them into evidence. Plus, it's just bad form. Time and place. A vandal forum would have received this much better. It's not so much that the video is bad, this just is not the place for it. Watch out for Sgt. Harris.....

I drink gasoline for breakfeast and beer for dinner!

Maybe the next UEer who comes along wanted to chill on that chair you guys chucked for a bit. That chair has been there forever, you destroyed a sentimental image of a place. In my opinion, you're not a true Urban Explorer, just a kid with a shafted sense of what's cool.

This is true.
I loved that chair, and can name other people who loved it just as much.
Although it wouldn't cover for every action that took place, I'd appreciate it if you dragged another chair to the top, and let it be.

get so personally offended by us throwing a broken xbox

Shit you could've given me the xBox, I would've dissected it, repaired it, thrown some linux on it, and gave it to a person in need of a gaming console. Electronics break down in front of me, you can pretty much bet I'll whip out my soldering iron.

I don't think you really need to go to the effort of bringing another chair up there. It's a nice thought, but not needed at this point.

I will say this, though, you should think again about your statements regarding United Crushers being in the middle of an empty field. You might be surprised to learn how much active businesses use the entire "Mill Hell" area. I work for one such company. We park our cars by ruined abandoned mills. One of our maintenance buildings (now used for cultivating bacteria for bio fuel) used to be the power plant for the now-demolished ADM mill. If you think nobody is going to notice people chucking stuff off the roof you should think again. And if you think there's no possible way somebody could get hit walking around down below you should think again too.

I'm not writing this to fight with you. There's no point in that. I'm interested to know what your motivation for exploring is and why you've gotten into the hobby. Depending on your attitude going forward, there might be some genuine potential for you to become a really good explorer. You've at least been to a lot of places, so that's a start.

Here's my advice (you can take it or leave it).....

Be open to listening to veteran explorers. You might think we're all a bunch of middle aged males (I'm actually in my late 20's) too old to be relevant, but there's a lot of wisdom to be gained from talking to the older explorers. There are a LOT of people in the Twin Cities area who have been doing exploring for many years and they've learned from their mistakes (and other people's mistakes).

When people say that authorities, property owners, vandals, and scrappers read these forums it isn't because we're all a bunch of paranoid codgers. It's because it's the truth we've learned from experience. We've seen treasured abandonments get sealed up and friends arrested.

Over the years we've seen a lot of young guys get into the hobby thinking they need to be "extreme" or show off or whatever, and we've seen their recklessness lead to undesired consequences. And yeah, some of us started out as idiots too. A lot of us have made mistakes and we'd like to steer new people away from repeating those mistakes.

The exploring community probably needs an injection of new blood, but there are a lot of people who aren't gong to be forgiving of folks that randomly vandalize or crow bar their way into places. That sort of behavior gets people cut out of the loop of information and then lots of people don't want to explore with certain individuals. It's not nice, but there's a tendency for this to happen. Repeatedly.

At the end of the day, attitude is nothing, brains are everything. What do you want people to know you for?

I encourage everybody to come to Mouser Week tommorrow night (Saturday night). Just be honest and respectful. You might learn something.
