|  | | | I have heard about an old mental hospital that is in the Knoxville area for years now. My uncle (who has since passed away) told me about it when I was about 11 years old and have heard other stories about it from secondhand sources a few times over the years. It is around Knoxville or Maryville and the only way to access it is by boat as it is on an island. I have been looking on Google for it recently with a big, fat bunch of nothing in results. Anyone ever heard of this place?

| | | | I, too, have heard these rumors. But nothing definitive. I'm really skeptical about the whole boat thing though. If something like that ever existed, it's probably demolished by now, or else it would be a well-known location that I probably would have heard of before.

There really are lakes, but they tend to be made by dams. I don't know of many islands, though...

| | | | Maybe Peninsular Psych? Down the river from Knoxville, although I believe it's still active. It's next to Jones Bend/Blount County Park. I used to work with a guy from Knoxville and he said there were the remains of an old sanitarium somewhere just south of Knoxville.

I do not know about the sanitarium in South Knoxville that you speak of.

| | | | There was one near the river off of the Pellissippi Hwy. There is a caretaker that lives on site and does not hesitate to pull a shot gun. I know of some people who accessed it from the river when his truck was not there but that was several years ago. So.....
Also, it was very a small structure that was part of Eastern State which later became Lakeshore Mental Hospital down near Papermill Drive. Hope that clears up some of your questions.
