Factory in Clinton, TN

Anyone have any info on this place? I've lived in Clinton for several years now and have always been fascinated by the place because it seems abandoned and is smack in the middle of downtown.

Also, there is an abandoned looking building on the corner of Old Emory and Brickhouse Rd. It's behind a fence and is next door to a dump. Any info?

I hear there's an explorer who lives in Clinton- he might be able to check it out and even post some pictures. I think he goes by maynardave on the forums.

;)

We're more about 'Show and Tell' around here, not so much 'Look and Ask.'

try Google.

I have looked at those places several times and there just doesn't seem to be a feasible point of entry.

Show up at 9:30 with 15 dollars cash and your fingers crossed.

Hhaha, not trying to be snarky. It's just that most of the fun is in discovering this information for yourself. That's why we call it "exploration" instead of "tourism."

Also this is an international forum- I had to laugh when you asked about the corner of Old Emory and Brickhouse Rd. We've got some pretty active members in eastern TN, but I doubt anybody has any extensive knowledge about your small town.

The only way any of us knows anything is because we get off our collective asses and go scout locations, search for information online and in person, and generally put a lot of effort in. There's lots of basic info about how to do this already in the rookie forum: http://www.uer.ca/...p?fid=1&catid=1089.

So, find out what's in that building, and let us know.

All right, folks!

I took a long shot and spoke with the mayor of Clinton, Wimp Shoopman, about the possibility of getting into the place. I figured it would be the best shot since the two of you said that you had never seen a viable entry. I told him that I had an interest in older/abandoned structures and would like to take some pictures from the inside. Surprisingly to me, he was really quite enthusiastic about the idea. He said that he leaves office the end of this month and would like to get me in before he leaves. He said he will speak to the City Manager to find out who is in charge of the place. The only concession is that he would like a photo or two for himself as he also feels it is a "beautiful, old building" and would like to see some of that captured before they demo part of it and revitalize the rest.

I told him that I only had a simple digital camera but knew of some people in the area that may have better equipment. So, is anyone interested in making the trip?

Apologies in advance if I broke UE etiquette by asking before entering.

Awesome, man, that's what I'm talking about!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with asking permission- some of my all-time favorite explores happened that way. I have to say going straight to the mayor was pretty ballsy. If you get him some good shots, he may even give you access to other places. Framing it as a photographic interest in history can open a lot of doors.

Don't worry about your camera- a simple digital camera can do wonders if you grab a $20 tripod and figure out how to mess with the exposure settings. And if Opheliaism and belleZ have taken notice of this place, I'm excited to see some shots of it!

Edit- Also, Wimp Shoopman is the most amazing name for a mayor I've ever heard. AWESOME.

In my assessment of my potential skills in UE, I feel I benefit from being 30 and looking/sounding reputable.

I have seen the work of both Bellez and Ophelia which is why I asked if they would want to come. I should be able to pull off some shots. I know they can.

I am eager to see inside. The mayor said that the guy who uses the building stores an odd array of stuff in there, i.e. caskets and dolls.

it never hurts to ask. we tried for a long time to track some people down and get permission for a couple places around here, but sadly it never worked out. we have since, however, managed to get in to those places.

also, don't underestimate what you can do with simple digital cameras. mascarah and anapplesnail have a similar model of a canon point and shoot (at least i think, correct me if i'm wrong!) and they both produce some very nice photos. =)

2 weeks without hearing back from him, so I am going to assume it's a no-go. I still do plan to go take some stuff from outside anyway when I get the chance.

I went in there about two years ago. The front door was open. I pretty much just walked in the front door. It was pretty damn cool inside too.
