Ive scouted this place once, I'd really like to check it out. Has anyone ever gotten in, or even tried?

The one on the Ottawa River? Chaudière Island?

Talk to us man

Domtar is closing their mills all across Ontario. Several of which are former EB Eddy purchases. There is one out in Noelville that I was visiting this week but missed that 'magic window' of opportunity between abandoned and reborn.

Assuming you mean the one in Ottawa then yes, people have gotten in. The POE used is definitely no longer accessible. Another group got caught there. There's no graffiti or any serious vandalism so it's not well traveled. If you do try I wish you luck.

If the guards on the other side of Booth St go away when it closes then access should be easier. At least one would have more time to look for alternate POEs.

Yeah i'm referring to the large one in Ottawa. Sucks that people got caught there. Ive seen one POE but it would be bloody tricky to get to and I'm not sure what is located on the other side.

my buddy and i tried a year ago to get into the EB eddy area building in Ottawa but we got stopped by a security guard, he let us go cus we weren't too intent on looking suspicious, we just acted dumb apologized and started asking him questions. he said that with the closure at some point soon they were cutting back on security guards and we may be able to get in there. it doesn't look real accessible at first glance. good luck to anyone trying in the future.

Warning do not enter = Please come in right this way....

I'm heading to Gatineau this weekend, going to be at a hotel right nearby and I'm going to check it out. Early morning probably, if I'm not tired. Going to play the dumb english tourist card in anything. Looks neat though, even from the outside.

my uncle was the head of engineering at the eb eddy plant in hull from 1970 to 1996 when he retired. when i was very young he took me on a personal tour of the plant and the paper machine line which he designed. i think it was that tour which got me interested in old industrial buildings. i will never forget walking through that huge room with the paper machine and watching my uncle talk with the people who were running it. he was very well-liked by everyone. he has a curious fascination with not only machines and engineering, but people and what they do.

unfortunately his package did not include keys to the buildings, but he still has the books, drawings, panorama pictures of the paper machines, and stories about the plant and how various parts of it worked. his favorite topics are the co-generation project and the dewatering tanks and the sluiceway and the tracked machine they used to keep the sluiceway clear.... ill have to ask him about that one again, kind of foggy on the details. i always think of my uncle when i go by the plant, it's always been a part of home.

When I lived in Westboro my neighbour worked for EB Eddy, he had a few interesting stories about the abandoned part of the facility. Then he got laid off in about 2007. My ex wifes grandfather worked at that building for 41 years, used a bicycle to get around to all the different buildings, so much history and they will probably see the wrecking ball in the near future.

There is still a tunnel between the buildings on both sides of Booth and a tunnel to the smaller steam building.
