I'm looking to get a few people together for some UE (as I'm hoping you inferred). I'm not exactly a crack explorer, but I've done ~6 places with varying degrees of difficulty in terms of access, danger, security, etc., and I've done my share getting into places I shouldn't be so I should be able to contribute to any group.

I'm from Michigan, going to school in Nebraska and I have family in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, so really I can be just about anywhere within a decent distance of those places (i.e. Iowa). So if you're interested reply to this thread and I'll PM you or you can PM me.

As any good explorer knows winter isn't the best time for UE necessarily, so even if we don't get out soon, at least we can do some planning or something.

Thanks for your time!

M.H.

This isn't your usual rookie thread. I hope that other new users use this as a model of how to introduce yourself and contribute to the community. You most likely won't ever meet me, but my name is Jack and welcome to UER.

Well there are less people out and about in the cities at night during winter so thats a plus.

The big downside is that you have to watch where you leave footprints if the place is patrolled.

The twin cities has a lot of explorers, as does Chicago. But those in the latter city tend to be very closed to new people.

The more you explore and post about it on here, the more people will start to trust/respect you.

I guess it's time to put up some of my past work then.

Also, in relation to the winter post, I'm talking about the dangers of high snowfall and/or freezing and thawing on structurally unsound buildings. Where I'm from it's a hazard for structurally sound buildings.

That's not necessarily true. Some people believe they'll "earn respect" by posting lots and lots of worthless threads bragging about their exploits. This often makes the poster look like a self-possessed UER scenester or wannabe or something. This is even worse when the new person looking for respect posts sensitive locations that end up getting trashed because everyone and his mom saw it online here and wants to party/vandalize/ninja the shit out of the place.

Posting threads about your explorations here isn't always a bad thing, mind you. It's great fun to read a well-written story about a fun adventure exploring something. It shows your enthusiasm for the hobby and shares the joy with other people. That's a good thing.

Just remember to post sensitive information with great discretion. Use judgement to know what should or should not be posted on the public forums. Explorers in your region will appreciate your keeping things on the down low.

If you really want to branch out to other explorers, your best bet is to start messaging other explorers in your region and ask for their advice. Often times they will help point you towards other people who you might have a good chance of meeting up with and going exploring together. In my personal opinion, this is a much better route to go than simply posting location-specific threads that questionable people might view.

On the contrary. I prefer exploring in the winter time. Its also some of the best time to recon.
