Custom made LED torches & floodlights

I'm relatively new here so excuse if i sound noobish.

Anyhow, this is my custom made LED floodlight:

It uses 6 bright Aqua-colored LEDs and is currently designed for short-ranged use. The nifty thing is, it was totally free, using old parts from the local bulk collection! Yes even the lead-acid battery!
The floodlight can be used for about 12+ hours, and is excellent for long draining expeditions.
I'm soon to upgrade it with some better LEDs, and a custom PCB along with waterproofing.

If anyone else has anything they made themselves, show it around! Nothing beats equipment you made yourself

Is that a car battery? (I can't tell the scale of what I'm looking at)

it's a 12V 7AH battery, i can't tell but i THINK it's either a motorcycle or jetski battery.
I have a car battery with similar handles, but it's far too heavy to take on an expedition.

it looks to be a security system back up battery OR a UPC battery. Looks like too much of a pita compared to the ease of a regular maglite

For the size the floodlight wont be to applicable in a draining or even long hike situation. consider using a li-ion power source. or build a pack of quad-a's.

doing some pretty similar projects though, last night in fact, perhaps if you have more idea's we could collaborate a bit!

I have found that duck tape raped around a stick will slow burn for 20-40 min according to how much tape is used and how tightly wrapped it is. However once it heats up it can drip like napalm burning skin easily. I bring one or to with me on long trips as back up.
Note: Properly wrapping your duck tape so it can easily be lit is an art form and takes some trial and error. I have found zipos works better than a Bic.

DIY lighting is great!

Komiyan, I added you to the Flashlights, Torches, and Portable Lighting private board.

In particular, you might like the DIY thread, and the Embarrassing Lighting Ideas thread.

I hope you also bring a fire extinguisher, & those are heavy. I think a back-up light would be a bit more feasible.
