| | | It is refreshing to see some drain shots without people in them. So surprisingly I like 3 and 7 the best.

| | | 3 is my favorite. Absolutely stunning. You don't see many drain shots without people in them, do you? They make great avatars though.

Was there really a point to this? I'm interested if you meant "gahhhh those shots were so good I'm speechless" or merely "gahhhh I'm trying to get my post count up" I'm hoping you meant the former. Please reply to threads appropriately if you want to be taken seriously.

| | | I like drain pictures with people in them. It's provides scale. That said, #6 and #7 are my faves. 6 because I love that backlit "hero of the universe" pose and 7 because of the wonderful shadows.

| | | I like most of them aside from #4 and #9. Most of the drains you visit are interesting enough without all the wanky steel wool/coloured light gimmicks. I know that's personal taste, but I think as this particular gimmick spreads through flickr, it's going to become almost as hated as rainbow unicorn hdr, so you might want to consider jumping off that sinking ship now. That's just pre-monday-coffee opinion speaking, so make of it what you will. Favourites: I like 3, 7 and 8 best, although 8 needs some technical work - the blacks are not black, they're more like 90% gray, and the flare needs to go. The location works really well with the single backlit technique though, good lighting choice. The natural light photos are nice, just because it's rare to find decent natural light in a drain (although it's just as likely that you're imitating natural light in 7, but either way it looks like natural light). #1 is well done. #2 would be better without the spiral light thing, there's not enough of it for the effect to work - I only know what it is because I've seen so many similar ones from you, and in this case, the ghosting of your legs just make a mess out of the foreground. #5/6 are okay, although both look like you're pushing the limits of your camera's dynamic range, especially in the noisy shadow detail. The only other thing I'd mention is to watch your angles - 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 are all tilted in varying degrees to the right - it would make for stronger images to either make it an obvious compositional element, like in 4, or correct it after the fact when you crop.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

| | | Whoops! I didn't even realize this was the critique forum. I have avoided reading mortimer's response, so that he won't sway my opinion. 1. Seems quite soft and a tad noisy. 2. I think you could easily loose 1.5 inches off the bottom. Also the green rope, garden hose, whatever it is along with the red splotch and other crap by the dividing wall makes for some distraction. As you can see, I have no idea what is there and I find it a bit frustrating. Also, on the right there is a light trail, or something that is going opposite to your other ones. Also, I am not a fan of the spiral. 3. I like this one, but I would like to see a centered version, where the edge goes perfectly down the middle. 4. I have a personal bias against crazy lighting. 5. This is nice, but too distorted and crooked for my tastes. 6. I think this one would be better if it was centered. 7. This is lovely, though a tad noisy. 8. I am never a huge fan of flare, nor the idea that I am staring into a lightbulb. Also, it is pretty soft and noisy. 9. I have a personal bias against crazy lighting.
