Swivel Bridge

Sue me, but i didnt get any photos of this. but a while back Siredward and i were planning on exploring an old power plant nearby the river, and we sadly couldnt get in using our previous method, and didnt have the gear to use a different method. So instead of going home disheartened and defeated, we decided to take a trip to a train bridge right next door.
So to start off, the bridge was NOT abandoned, we knew this of course. Our plan was to cross the bridge, climb part of it, see the view and leave. WE first wanted to cross under the bridge on the crossmembers as an excercize on overcoming vertigo/fear (something weve done on a few other occasions ) and decided that it would probably have been more of an exercise in either suicide or long unpleasant falls into the river. so instead we decided to walk across past the big floodlight which we assumed would allow us to be seen easily, climb if we were unseen, and then go back, or RUN if we were detected.
Well as it turns out, the way the bridge was designed made it so that despite the large amount of light shining on our dark clothed bodies making silouettes of us, the operators/security couldnt see us coming until we were right by the door. so we did some climbing around, and discovered that it wasnt just a plain old train bridge it had large mechanisms in it! which we thought meant it was a lift bridge, but it was in fact a swivel bridge( ill get to how we learned that in a second)
once we got done exploring the areas where the floodlight was placed and the mechanisms, we moved int towards the cabin, of course making little to no noise, and made our way underneath the cabin where there was a whole chunk of walkway we hadnt seen yet. Siredward snake crawled to the stairwell in front of the window, and i took a slightly more dangerous route around and under the cabin ( the urge to punch the underside of the floor was intense!) we were next to a large pillar that looked like a big gear, we then figured we were in the clear when it came to security.
We explored the left walkway, only to find it collapsed, and that it was fun to shimmy along the wooden sidewall thing. we had shimmied all the way back under the main bridge part when things got a tad sticky. We were busy whispering the usual bullshit about whatever it was we were dong, siredward wanted to take an nap in between the wooden slats. Then we suddenly heard a LOUD bang followed by the roaring sound of a monstrous motor and rusting metal moving, which as it turned out was the bridge rotating. we immediately thought we had been busted and they were trying to trap us on the rotary segment. So we moved from the outer wall to the inner one, and waited a bit. soon after the bridge stopped moving ( it was definitely awe inspiring how the central mechanism was able to support the whole bridge segment, much less rotate it so smoothly) we see some guy come out, and we or course think hes coming to look for us. and we move lower on the wall. not the case, the guy was taking a piss! however, siredward's flashlight was on in his pocket, and i was thinking the guy saw us, which he did once he noticed the light, and he said( in a voice we like to mock now) "what the fuck is that?". he went in and got a light, and we moved away while he did so,then came back and shined the light where we were, not seeing anything ( despite shining the light over us a few times, thank god for our dark clothing that blended in!)he just went inside. and we promptly hopped across rocks and waited in the woods to see if he called police. not seeing any after 20 mins,we began the 2 hour hike to the nearest bridge back across the river. We were tempted to to go back to the opposing side of the bridge and get a picture of the bridge operators and send them the picture with the quote " what the fuck was that?".Alas we figured that however funny it wouldve been, we were tired, and it might not have been the best idea.

We plan to go back sometime and see the final chunk we didnt get to climb.

P.s. imma get grammar nazied im sure of it.

great story man. Would love to tag along. Too bad that that's a trip that doesn't allow for many at a time.

Well, it IS an actively used bridge, so its not like it wont be there if you wanted to see it. not to mention like i said its built in such a way that if youre careful they cant really see you. so bringing more than 2 people should be fine. I think it would be quite funny to bring a very large group of people and suprise the operator when he goes out for his late night urination. I wonder how he would react to seeing a group of 30 people just standing there outside the cabin. i can only guess... " what the fuck is that?"
