|  | | | Its always hard to do your first post. Here goes...This Bridge in the Twin Cities is now in the process of being demolished but it is always nice to remember locations. This was a place where i can remember going across the river for 75 cents when i was little and its sad to see it go. not only because it was an awesome bridge but also because this is what got me into urbex. Here are some photos of the Rock Island Bridge (also known as the Newport Bridge/J.A.R Bridge)for you to enjoy:
Road leading up to the Bridge
who doesn't love a little ATHF
Where the Road goes under the train tracks (which is supposed to have made this a unique bridge)
looking out towards the end of the bridge
and if you have one looking out... you also have one looking back
part of the swing bridge area which is now torn down.

And one last one from the upper deck showing the full swing section of the bridge open for the shipping lanes
I don't have any pictures of the other side of the river because of the refinery. They are really protective of that little place...so much so that i was stopped and questioned twice by Homeland Security. The Bridge was also almost fully covered by graffiti. To bad its almost gone.

I assume it's still worth checking out though. It's not torn down completely yet, is it?

not to sure about this...i haven't been there is a long while...but i will be going tomorrow to check it out to see if some of it (if any) is still up...i do know they tore down some of it like the middle swing span...but there was a bunch of stuff landside that could still be accessible if its there...will let you know

It doesn't swing, is one car lane wide, and is free. You can see the very small turnoff where one has to back down if they encounter an oncoming vehicle.

| | | | sorry to bring this post back...i have been over seas for the past month. but new info has been released saying the bridge is getting funding to be made in to a recreational pier. for the life of me i cant find the star tribune article with the plans. but here is the article for the renovation funding. so this bridge may still have a life after all...
