Sometimes you just need to stop and smell the rust. Driving around on the way to work or school, you don't get to appreciate what is around you. When it comes down to it, that's the heart of what Urban Exploration is; appreciating what the city is offering you.

Birmingham is ripe for UrbEx. The city is complete shit. As the years have gone by (since the city was the heart of the civil rights movement) white flight has been prevalent. The money, offices, and homes have moved further and further from the city into the many surrounding suburbs. More and more buildings are abandoned with no hope of a revival in the downtown scene on the horizon for the next 50 years.

The infrastructure, government, budget, and big dreams are in various states of disrepair. It will only get worse. It is beautiful and sad and gives me big boners.

This is still a great place to get a dog!

The City Federal building was recently redone for residential condos. Few of the condos sold and an auction that they later held for units was total fail.

We have a piss issue.

It was very common around my law office downtown to walk by a big pile of shit on the way in. While you were unlocking the door to get in on any given morning you could smell that you were standing in a puddle of piss.

It's nice to see some good urban decay shots on here. I don't have anything against posting pictures of the inside of abandoned asylums/hospitals/schools by any means, but it's nice to see these.

I love it, because I know where most of these places are. It makes me feel so in the loop! I actually go to school with a girl that lives in the City Federal. Hahaha.

Where on earth is 5, though?

Ah, good old Richard Arrington Boulevard. That's the bridge where my friends got robbed at gunpoint!

...Fun fact of the day!

It's a shame that I live downtown and I pretty much have no pictures to show for it other then a few skylines.
