Greetings from Hampton Roads

Hey everyone, I'm new here. Looking for places around the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Here is an old farmhouse I shot earlier this year. It burned down two months after I went. I hate vandals! ~Joel

I had to think twice on what was in that chinese food I ate earlier when I saw this picture. It really convinced me I was on a trip of some kind.

Horrid. Damn, just take the shot for crying out loud don't molest it into oblivion in photoshop.

You got a great angle in that shot too.

To make you happy, here is one of the three exposures I used to create the first image. By the way, the technique I used in the first is HDR (high dynamic range). Some people love it, others as above hate it. To each their own.

Because HDR is a fake photograph. The purpose of photography is to capture things exactly as they look in real life.. or as close to it as you can get.

I'm not an HDR hater, as I do probably too much HDR myself. Although I really think that the non-HDR version is better for this shot. Maybe try exposure blending to get the detail out the windows?

On the other hand, sometimes pictures can look cool when they don't look like a real photo and more like a painting or something else. All art does not have to be realist, there are plenty of forms where the point is to not have them look real.

IMHO

I love HDR because it feels like you're in a dream where you can focus on all things at once.

I also love traditional photos.

+1 on the shots, I like them.

Much better with the original, I'm not a fan of HDR at all it just doesn't have much ascetic value to me.

Yeah i gotta go with the original on this one. I don't mind HDR, but i believe it has its moments.

However, joel my man i think that shot is still really good and i look forward to more pictures from you when you get out and about down there in virginia.

Thanks guys. I do a lot of HDR shots, which I guess you could consider more "artsy" than a standard photograph. I don't do all HDR, it just depends on the shot and which one I personally like more. Obviously this site/forum is not really about photography or art, its about exploring places, so the HDR shots don't fit in. I get that, so if/when I post anything else, I'll just post the regular shots. :)

I'd have to agree with 35mm. Though his delivery was somewhat tactless, its about par for the way in which ridiculously over-processed images are received by most members on this board.

Likely for the best until you get your asbestos internet pants ;) I prefer the natural look, so my HDRs lack the glow you seem to like.
