my first post on a location

Here's some photos from a recent trip into the last part of the old -I R W I N- (name edited to beat searches) Toy factory in Toronto. The main building has been redeveloped into condos, but this one section is still left mostly as it was. I know that this was near the old rail shipping bay that I used to poke around while the Irwin factory was still in operation. I'm thinking it was left as is because of the massive smoke stacks, which are probably very costly and dangerous to take down.

anyway, I've done a bunch of research into the building over the past few years,
and once I make it to 'full member status' I'll be happy to add it to the UE DB.

(yes I know the faux sepia look is cheese, but I still like it)

^ mandatory 'old chair' shot.

I've got a few more flicks on the camera but I'm hesitant on showing them in case they give away a little too much about how to enter the site and reach the rooftop (which has seen a few writers over the years).
again, sorry if I'm not totally up on the protocol of this forum - I'm new, but willing to learn!

oh right... my question:

Is this a well known location to people on here?
I always assumed it was well known because I've been around it for years.

*edit: and if it turns out the location is new to this forum, I can give a full backstory on it.

Hey, nice first photo thread! While the location is probably well-known with some of the older members I'm sure it's new to many others (including me).

Interesting. As I passed the Liberty Village area on the Gardiner this weekend I was wondering what happened to that place, since I couldn't actually see it any more. It's amazing how different that area is compared to 5 years ago.

also, somebody hook this guy up with full membership. he's doing it right.

hello guys,

I'm a forum moderator on another toronto site, so I know that contributing is the best way to introduce yourself.

I also got a good tip from rob666 to edit the actual site name to beat internet searches, so I think that 'I R W I N' should do it.

here's a few more flicks from my last trip inside.

^ the base of the western stack

^ the base of the eastern stack

^ the roof. This is looking out a window that I wasn't going to climb out.
There's another way out to the roof, but I haven't gone out yet.

that's kind of what I had in mind

Actually, when I saw the location of the meetup, I just kind of assumed this was where you would be going.

^ this is facing west.

look at the lower right part of the flat back wall. There's a door there.
The door leads into some kind of (slightly) renovated office area.
There's a fridge, and some basic kitchen stuff in there.

I haven't gone though the door and into those rooms myself,
but I know that there's a few rooms in that section just based
on the size of the building from the exterior. There is a security
sticker on the outside of the windows that says 'web based tv monitoring'
but I'd be willing to be that's a bit of an exaggeration.

anyway, my point it that there's still some unexplored space (by me) in the building.

Naw the meets have just been in Liberty Village for years.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

oh man.... I can't believe it actually took me this long to sign up here.
I've worked at Liberty / Atlantic for over 10 years now, and now
I find out there's a group of explorers who meet a block from here.

better late than never I suppose

Wonderful work! I think the place is already in the UE DB, and many of the older UER members are aware of the place / used to explore it during its redevelopment. I have to say, your work, and even hesitance, is very noble for a 'noob'; I am sure it has been duly noted ; P

If you ever want to explore/check out some other TO shiz with a fellow TO explorer, you can send me a PM : )

thanks a ton for the offer. I've seen some of your rooftop flicks and might just take you up on that.

I got a PM confirming that it's in the UE DB, but that the entry is a bit dated (the whole neighborhood changed drastically in the past 4 years). I guess that's the beauty of abandoned places... they can change event when they aren't trying to. If everything works out tomorrow, then there should be pictures galore of this location to post up.
