The Savoy Hotel or Savoy apartments as it was called back in 1906 is slowly being torn down, it is now 103 years old, and was deemed structurally unsound by the City of Houston. A large part of the interior had already collapsed leaving just the exterior wall and a large crack begain opening up running from the ground to the roof, about 8 stories, the collapsed floors were sitting in the basement. there is a larger Savoy Hotel right next to it built in 1966 but closed in 1988, it is still standing and would love to see inside of it.

I know we're supposed to leave everything just like we found it...

DownTown Houston has alot of old buildings it is just getting to them, parking and all the eyes on you, the best way to enter a building or old hotel is to look like you belong there, I have a bright yellow reflective vest a hard hat and a clip board in my hands so it looks like I am there for a reason, I will even carry a tape measer with me, if someone sees me on a property I look more like an inspector than a UEr.
But what I really like is finding lost stuff, my next project is hiking through the woods to get to what looks like in Google a very old two story house a barn and two other structures hidden in the trees.
The first picture is the barn the second is the house, if you look closely you can see the other two structures to the right and laft and possibly one behind it. sorry for the grainy pics

This place looks wicked rad, and if I lived anywhere even remotely near Houston, I'd be all over it.

But it's not cool to steal someone's photos and post them all over the internet, especially if you don't ask permission and/or don't give the photographer proper credit. I had assumed those were your photos until Secretsquirrel said something. It's people like you that make me hesitant to post any of my work online. Next time around, grab your own camera and document things for yourself! Even if your photos turn out like crap, not everyone that explores is a photographer, and they're still YOUR photos, not someone else's.

I understand and agree, and I apologise to all who thought I took them, it was not my intition to do that, I did not even know who Secretsquirrel was until he said he took the photos, I went back to the blog found the link and there they were and looking I do see Secretsquirrel's name in the corner, so that,s that.
It was just I saw nothing about the Savoy in UER so I grabbed photos to show everyone assuming know one even knew about the demo. And honestly if I was Secretsquirrel and had access to those kind of shots I would have blown UER up posting photos and the story of the Savoy, thats is just me.

I have been a member for two years now, but this is my first log on now for about a year or so, my first, log on was stupid, I was called a vandal and accused of trolling, what ever that means, that was me asking about a location I just moved to and saying hi, it felt more like a facebook that a sight for exploration, show there balls to the new guy when I have probably been UEing ling then some of them had been alive, so I am back and I will start posting pics. And when I do post pics please, anyone please feel free to use them, copy them, send them to your mamma, re post them, that is why I post them, for you to enjoy, if not I would have kept them to my self.

Well now you know to ask permission to post them first and if you cannot get a hold of them, to post them with photo credits saying who took the photos and where you got them from.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt, by reading your posts, that you didn't intend to break any rules or steal someones pictures. However, you have been a member here for 2 years, and even though you have not posted much, you have had time to read the TOS.

Mistakes happen, just don't make this one again. Unless Secret wants to press it further, this will be all that is said about it. But ALWAYS either get permission to post, or credit the person who owns the shots, or at the very least say something like "I found these on...".

That would hold true on UER, or any other venue for that matter. And if I were you, I'd be careful about giving out a blanket statement for people to use your pictures any way they please like you did in the statement above. But thats just me. You can do whatever you please with yours.

Yay, I don't need to change my fuckin settings. I'm fully aware of how Flickr works. I don't want others posting pics I risked my ass to take all over the place without my permission or without giving me credit. You posted them as if they were yours. The 1st pic was yours and the last also , with mine all mixed in between. The issue is dead as long as you stop posting others work without permission. Do some footwork.

Thats funny, actually the story is I used to be an engineering inspector so I have all the equipment, badges and stuff to just walk up onto a job sight or building and not be questioned, for the most part, and that works for me, I see most of the UErs here are in there high teens to mid 20s, that is fine if you are caught trespassing, people and the court system sees a 19, 20 or even a 25 year old deferent than a person 35 or 40 years old. A 20 year old climbing through a building looks like just that, but a 35 year old looks out of place, so with me all they see is a city inspector checking out a dilapidated building. I used to really like downtown Houston but have found that most of the "historical" buildings (1940s or older) are shells, like the jefferson Davis Hospital (now demolished) you could be on a overpass and see right through it, the interior was gone, even the Savoy was "redone" in the 1960s leaving none of the turn of the century essence. So if you see a man in his mid 30s looking like a city inspector and he does not say, "hey kid, you need to go" it is probably me.

Jefferson Davis isn't demolished it was remodeled into artist lofts. I just carry my photography equipment with me and if questioned by authorities I just use the I'm a professional photographer bit. Hasn't let me down yet !

My favorite UE moment: Someone called the cops while I was in a drain. As I was climbing up the embankment, one of cops saw my bald spot and exclaimed, "man, he's OLD!".

I'm not surprised to find over-30s on the forum. I *am* surprised to find an over-30 who doesn't understand the basic concepts of "give credit where credit is due" and "do the right thing *before* you get caught doing the wrong thing".
