Anyone free in the TO area Monday?
< on 10/3/2009 9:05 PM >

Hi...

Sunday afternoon I will be heading down to Toronto with a friend for business purposes. Monday morning he's taking off with the car leaving me at the hotel. The hotel is at Jane and Wilson.

Obvious question is obvious... Since I don't know my way around, are there any explorers in this area that are free during the daytime (morning until about 1 or 2 PM) and would be available to act as a guide?

I won't have a car and even if I did, Toronto can be a little intimidating on the meek.

Just a suggestion, if you plan on going to many different locations, I suggest you get a day pass for the public transit. At 9 bucks for unlimited travel vice 2.75 adult fare it's well worth it.

Pommemangee, aren't the $9 day passes just on weekends? Or am I just out of my mind again?

Stay tuned for Exploring the World with Insane Dick!

From my understanding, group passes are only good on weekends and certain holidays, but passes for a single person are good any day.

Weekends you can take a few people with you on the same pass, weekdays it's just valid for a single person. Very useful if you'll be travelling around the city.

Keep it fuzzy.

After looking over the nearest locations and with the timeframe that I have, it's not likely I'm going to get very far anyways.

What's with people working Monday mornings anyways...

Edit: ARGONIAN where are youuuuuu. I'll probably just wait until the car comes back and do my own little Tour De Force.

The hotel is at Jane and Wilson.

I would suggest that you be careful after dark in that neighbourhood.

Far, far from Jane and Wilson. Also, I work. If it was a Friday I would have gone back with you. Time to learn to schedule things better, buddy.

I see that you got some tips on the TTC.

I only found out today that we were leaving tomorrow - life on the edge you understand. Also I was only kidding, I didn't expect that you would be free Monday morning.

After scouting the DB, there should be ample opportunities along the way though. It's all paid for anyway - a meeting with the MTO.

I'm back safe and sound.

Tried to find the Kodak building but being unfamiliar with the streets, it came down to the GPS saying it was along Eglington at an intersection. I decided to Google the Kodak building and found out that it's actually on Photography Drive which worked just fine for the Copilot GPS.

I have to say that compared to anything I've seen up north, it was quite depressing to see the amount of vandalism and graffiti inside. Obviously Toronto is a lot larger than Northern Ontario cities and has more taggers.

The building appeared to be sealed up with wood over all main floor doors and windows - but as is usually the case - it was only a matter of finding out where the Achille's heel was located.

Contractors were working in the distance and it's only a matter of time until this one is gone too. Overall a good trip and the business meeting with the Ministry of Transportation went very well.

Kodak sure is trashed indeed but I would have to say it is one of the worst locations in Toronto in terms of vandalism goes. I can only imagine what it would have been like to explore the whole complex when it was still around, it would have been amazing.

I say the same thing when I go through the DB and see photos from 2006-2008 when things were intact and complete (eg. Kodak, Camp 30, etc.). I try to imagine how it must have felt to have been the first person inside, the feeling of excitement, going home and creating the DB entry, slowly watching it crumble over the years.

I wish I lived further down south sometimes.

The car was sitting in the parking lot at a Point Au Baril gas stop (across from where the boat launch is). There were paint cans and brushes on the ground yet the paint was dry. It had current plates.

I asked the woman in the store, "What's up with that car?". She replied, "I don't know, they crazy." She added that the car runs (and it looks new too).

I can only surmise from what it says on the back about, "She's got the keys" that maybe it's the result of a nasty divorce. It's not drivable obviously and there's no real rhyme or reason except for what I suspect (??).
