| | | Churches and Hospitals and Burnt Houses, Oh My! < on 9/11/2009 12:58 AM >
| | | I should really post more often, but here is a collection of my explorations from the past two months. First off is the church. This church is about 7 miles from my house, and it out in the middle of the woods. It's about as abandoned as abandoned can get. The back is collapsing and one room is riddled with holes in the floor. I don't have a Flickr pro account, so I'll be using a mixture of my pictures from there and the gallery provided by this lovely site. Let's start off with a picture of the front!
This is literally the only shot of the building that you can get without it being blocked out by trees. I apologize for the shakiness of the picture. Anyways, you walk through a door frame covered in "666" "Church of the Colt" and pentagrams and you're greeted with this sight:
Yes, there are many pews stacked over to the left. The windows are all broken.
Let's go back to the first interior picture. Look closely in the middle. What's that? If you guessed a piano, you are correct!
How it has managed to stay in such a decent condition is beyond me. Everything else has been broken. Speaking of which, here is the room with all the holes in the floor that nearly killed me.
Enough of that, though. Let's head upstairs!
There's not a lot to see up here. Apparently the two "sk8ters" in my rural Alabama town practice their art here.
Oh, and you remember how I said the back had collapsed? Well it doesn't look like the rest of the building is staying much longer.
Well, that's it for the church! I hope you enjoyed your little tour! Here are a few more I snapped today:
Next on the list: the hospital! Fellow Birmingham-goers will surely recognize this building!
I'm 100% sure that my friend and I were the first to get into this building since it closed (with the exception of the patrol team). Sadly, I didn't take too many pictures inside of here. I was too awed by the place. Looks like it'll be a while before I get back in, too (you know who you are, hahaha). But here are some operation room records, along with my friend's sexy hand:
Also, the stunning view of Birmingham from the roof:
Last on today's agenda is the burnt house! I only have one picture of it on my Flickr, but it's a pretty decent view of the house from the outside.

I'm down for going any time! It's literally 10 minutes from my house, so whenever you're free, send me a message! I'd post some pictures from the inside of the burnt house, but the uploader seems to not want me to do so. Perhaps I'll put them on my Photobucket or something tomorrow..

You don't even know the half of it. On the door frame on the outside it says "The Church of us Colt". Yes, 'Colt'. And yes, 'us Colt', to make it worse. Then behind the piano, some literary genius wrote "Fuck cops is Margaret". What? And next to that is a failed attempt at an anarchy sign - it looks more like what a teacher would write on the top of a great paper rather than anarchy. Oh well, you can't really be surprised by the intelligence of most backwoods Alabamians.

It really does. It's just an 18-55mm kit lens, but it has some killer lens flare. As you know, I almost never post process my pictures, so that's all organic. I just really hate the fact that about a quarter of the skyline is blocked by the top of the other building. I used the ledge on the roof to stabilize the shot, but ever since I got a tripod, I've wanted to go back to get that out of the shot, but I'm not sure how easy that'll be. Maybe I'll take the high road and actually ask for permission, hahaha.

| | | They told us that it would be easy. They said that someone already shot scenes from a movie in there. I asked if we could get permission posthumously... No was the answer... essentially.

Just wear fake mustaches and go in and ask again. It's flawless!
