| | | Sad ... but I have trouble feeling for folks who end up getting killed while drunk. They almost always end up getting others killed as well.

| | | And nobody has considered the possibility they were members here? Reportedly they met on the net, reportedly the ghost story was false, and they were urban exploring... Urban explorers in Toronto, that met on the internet, jeez, wonder where that could happen...
It is sad that this happened, but I hope other explorers realize that we do face dangers that could kill us at times, and believing we couldn't be the next one in a story like this is foolhardy.

| | | Very sad that this young lady has met her demise in such a manner. My condolences goes out to the family and friends. I cannot imagine how that poor guy must be feeling. I hope he manages to not be horribly scarred for life. Be careful my fellow explorers

| | | It's not a good idea to be drinking when you explore as you aren't as aware of your surroundings and lose your common sense (watching your footing, etc) but it is still a tragedy. The poor boyfriend must feel terrible. My mom e-mailed me the link to this story, as well as mentioned it on the phone, and then had my dad mention it to me as well.

From what I have seen on news, The spot is to the right of the shorter tower, where that brown thing is sticking up.

They probably were just trying to rooftop. Shame they didn't go look for another window. I watched where they climbed out on the news, was actually a cover under window made of small pieces of wood and chicken wire to keep birds and crap out from that area underneath it. I'm honestly suprised the guy made it across. That wood didn't look like it could support the weight of an adult. [last edit 9/11/2009 3:43 AM by Air - edited 1 times]

| | | My sympathies to the girl... But seriously, who on earth would entrust their life on chicken wire??? Must of been pretty drunk. I've explored many times drunk, but its the same as riding your bicycle drunk, don't push it, take it easy.

| | | My mom and dad told me about this story earlier today and then it came up on citynews. The only reference to urban exploring I saw was in the article posted here, city was still spinning the ghost hunting story with interviews by some faculty who believe in ghosts. Toronto has a bustling community of explorers, for every person who explores registered on UER there's dozens more who just go out and do it without really knowing that there's a huge online community attached. For example the guy who died in Hearn (last year, was it?) wasn't a registered member on the site. Still they were practising the hobby and died doing it. This should be a reminder to everyone that exploring and alcohol should not be mixed...
Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you. |

| | | Leah Kubic, ghost hunting or not, was seeking what all of us here are: the thrill of an adrenaline rush. She, like us, wanted more to life than a 9-5 job and pay bills, she wanted adventure. And I have to give her and many of the U.E.'s here credit for going places I've had second thoughts about. Ironic really, she died doing something that made her feel alive. Anybody would want to go like that. R.I.P.

All that said, drinking and "ghost hunting" or urban exploring is just not a good idea. It's not something we should be condoning in any way shape or form at UER. Anyone who explores drunk shouldn't be a UER member.

Thats a pretty elitest thing to say. I DONT explore unless I have beverages with me and some marijuana cigarettes. Thats the way I enjoy to explore. Everybody explores in their own way. To tell me just because I enjoy some drinks while exploring, that I shouldnt be allowed here is just not cool. Its my life, not yours.
