I very recently visited this place with Fedge and were just starting to take a few pictures when we hear what at first sounds like a big ass, noisy truck. Then it becomes very apparent that this so called 'truck' is starting to sound a helluva lot like a tractor and it's getting closer!! Sure as white on rice, we have the property owner wanting to speak to us.

At first, he was understandably upset with our presence but rather surprisingly he became curious with our curiosity. We ended up having a very in depth conversation about the history of this house.

This house has been abandoned now for 25 years and belonged to this man's grandparents. Since his grandparents passing he remains torn on what to do with house as it will now cost a mild fortune to restore. He thinks about possibly tearing it down but he has senimental attachment whether it be nostalgic or not. He was also telling us that originally right to the left of the driveway towards the roadway were two gas pumps that actually served stage coach type cars.

He turned out to be a really nice guy who did give us permission to continue taking our pictures but he made it 'very' clear that he is fed up with folks poking around without permission. So, with that said if you decide to visit I recommend speaking to owner first to arrange anything.

a mild fortune?? no such thing. perhaps the word you were looking for was a small fortune?? anyways, walk up the stairs and turn your body left, now look up. what are you looking at? you are looking at an enormous hole in the roof. rain and snow has been coming in for many years, right down the middle of the house in the supporting walls and down to the foundation. The place is filled with raccoons, has incredible structural damage... so what i'm getting at is that its NOT restorable at all.

Sorry, what was that you were saying about forever alone?

leafloving4x4gal is right - please talk to the owner, located at 12715 County Road 2 (the strawberry farm/store outlet), before going on the property. Once the guy understood we weren't vandals he was much calmer and talked at length about the history of the property and the house.

Behind the house was an orchard that extended up the hill to almost the 401. It's fallen into disuse now but the owner actively farms strawberries on the southside of County Road 2.

His frustrations center around how he doesn't even bother boarding the house up anymore since vandals just rip them off and gain access anyways. He was very concerned about someone getting hurt in the house and starting a lawsuit against him.

Overall, he's a really nice guy. He was very understanding and was even apologizing for being so angry at first. We told him he had every right to be pissed off. By the end of our chat he was totally calmed down and just wants people to respect his property.
