Thinking about planning a trip here. Is it worth the trouble to get there? Is it still even there? What are some thing we should expect to encounter when we arrive? Suggestions for PPE? Thanks for the feedback.

Edit: If you don't want to post info here, please pm me. Thanks

Expect to see bears and soldiers on training exercises. Depending on the weather, there could be large amounts of water in your way. There may be large numbers of ministry of the environment officials there as well. I've encountered them all.

Was out there a couple weeks back and the place is still standing and also worth the trip. However be prepared for a 5km hike out into the sticks, being devoured alive by bugs, and potential soakers depending on how the weather has been out that way.
The place is fairly trashed, but I just think it adds to the experience.
If you do end up going drop some pics on us.

weather has been dry out here for a while, so should be less water along the way.

We will be either hiking, or taking Mountain bikes, haven't decided yet. As for the Military and MOE, do they cause a potential risk of getting in trouble?

I have relatives in Sudbury so the plan is to drive up, stay the night with relatives then head out the next day, this way we wouldn't have to try and cram it all into a one day excursion.

Ya like everyone said, lot's of water, bugs and possibly wildlife. Fairly trashed when we we're up there about 10 months ago. There's really no way that I've found to drive in and last time we took my ATV and we still had to go through a river that was about 3 feet deep (almost drowned my ATV and got really wet), but still one of my favorite places to photograph. I was messaged recently by someone and told that there tearing it down soon (not sure why nature's taking care of that for them).

The last known owner of Camp Bison was a gentleman named John Kostivik. No further information available.

It is not likely that Camp Bison is scheduled for demolition anytime soon.

a) The cost would be enormous to simply have the machinery brought on site. There are certain liabilities involved with owning such property but it would be more economical to [attempt to] seal up the property.
b) An environmental impact study would have to be conducted before any demolition permit was issued.

As far as a boot camp goes, the cost would again be enormous.

a) The infrastructure is completely shot. Hydro would need to be brought in, plumbing and septic beds constructed, and new buildings constructed.
b) This would necessitate a road to be constructed (as staff would not hike in, nor emergency services, etc.). The cost for a road alone would be astronomical.
c) There are much more suitable locations with existing infrastructure and/or hydro/water that are loctaed in rural areas. Roads are in place.

Finally, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services shut down the last provincial boot camp which was a fiasco. There are better alternatives including group homes and closed-custody facilities that are already in existance.

It's certainly possible that a demolition is in works or a boot camp, but I'll go on record and say I personally think it's just speculation, rumors and wind through the trees.

I am in no way trying to "fuel the rumours" on this place, but in my personal experience and opinion, if it was to be "demoed"- I do believe they would use explosives for reason (a) above.

Further this, I would not be the least bit surprised to one day hear the military being given that task as training. (since they are so close at times)

I say again, this is what I would personally expect if an end was in the plannings. Not saying it is, nor would I have any reason to know.

Oh, ya, and just go. The military (if on site) will tell you if you can go to that area or not -if they are even there (they don't use that part of the land normally) and their is a access road to the tracks, outside of the military fencing.
