| | | A big old house on the border of Mississauga < on 8/27/2009 4:16 PM >
| | | Hey, Apologies for not having pics, I rarely bring my camera with me, I'm sure some of you have been to a certain location in Mississauga around the Winston Churchill / Lakeshore area? A large old manor once owned by a prominent family, but donated to the city upon the death of it's resident(s). Plans are to convert it to a heritage site. Though it lays seemingly dormant, the hum of fluorescent lights inside indicates some form of activity. Any sense of homeliness that once was here has long been replaced by that of business. The plain white walls are mottled gray from neglect, and the blue green carpets underneath are rich with dirt and stain. The air hangs heavy with mold. The grounds, I find, are more inspiring than the house's interior itself. From the rear, you find yourself overlooking an inlet from the lake graced by the blowing willows that hang over it. However unkempt, with murky brown water and overgrowth, it is still a peaceful place. Mosquitoes and birds inhabit the air, while among the grays and greens of stone and grass underfoot, small wild strawberries grow where they can. Bring a mask if you go!

| | | I wonder if I am thinking of the same place...
If so then I have been there before the decay set in. It used to be in pristine Condition and would have made an awesome Movie set. edit: changed my post to protect the location a little Yeah this place was cool.. How Bad is the Mold? [last edit 8/29/2009 12:50 AM by Lord - edited 1 times]

Pretty bad, our trip was hurried as we had no masks at the time. Mold hazard warnings are posted outside actually. You can see big patches of it in quite a few areas, and you smell it everywhere. Worth it though.

is it wide open now? When I went there a year or so ago it was sealed up tight and I had to do some creative entering to get in.. I closed it back up when we left. It was sealed tight.. I mean there was boards you could pry but there were in there good and most of the windows were intact
did you know it used to be a Computer Lab?

| | | Not surprised it was a computer lab, but didn't know that. It definitely looked like it's seen some use since the original residents' passed it on, It was all boarded up when I went, except a door going into the basement that was open - I'm assuming from whoevers been working there recently. There are other smaller buildings on the premises, but I didn't enter them, no easy access and I just wasn't into the challenge at the time.
